Diplomat Aero

I tried my broad steel Diplomat Aero (my smoothest and favourite nib) on some Rhodia premium 90g and could NOT believe I was missing out on this otherworldly smoothness this WHOLE TIME?! I got a Rhodia webnotebook to use as my next journal and I finally got to start it tonight and I am so in love. It's so smooth, and I love how it shows off shading.

I love the matt finish and metal feel. Writes well too. The cap is really hard to get off. But then, when it is capped, it has some give and feels loose. The cap won't fall off, but is not tightly stick to the barrel.

If you'd like to push the budget a little (I'm not sure what range you're comfortable with) I'd also recommend checking out the Lamy Scala (which, considering its nib may be a bit on the overpriced side, but I love this pen so much I personally was OK with it) or.... and this is definitely not on the slim side... a Diplomat Aero. This one is *hefty*; it was one of my first heavier pens and I love the way it feels in hand. I'd also throw Namisu and Karas Kustoms in the ring, just because!

I have a number of fountain pens including many Lamy Al Star, Lamy Safari, Lamy Studio and a few cheap Chinese pens, but out of all of these this pen really stands out as a classy and quality fountain pen. Diplomat Aero (In Germany: 160€). Interesting design, perfect quality & in my opinion the best steel nib on the market. You should take a look at it!

If you like metal pens, perhaps consider the Diplomat Aero. Another good one is the Sailor Procolor, though it is on the smaller side, slightly smaller than the Metro, and a similar size to the Pelikan M200/205 (also a good candidate, unless you want a fine or extra fine nib, in which case don’t get a Pelikan).

I bought a Diplomat Aero, Factory (Stripes) version, fine steel nib, about a week ago. Got it for for US $116. The seller is stylo.ca , where I have bought 8 pens there in the past year. They are in Montreal and ship everywhere.

This post caused me to ink up and use my Diplomat Aero in the flame finish all day. I love that pen. Such wonderful machine work with how it screws together and its complex heft and balance.

My take:

Diplomat Aero is a fantastic pen.

Don’t go with the Pierre Cardin.

The Monteverde will have terrible QC issues.

Moonman M2 or Diplomat Aero shape, weight being almost exactly between the two. With a 14k hooded nib, Pilot preferably. Either cartridge converter or eyedropper.
