 They feel good. They feel good against the pick, and the smooth nature of the flat-wounds, they feel good on your fretting hand as well. So yeah, I really like them. They offer a great balance of having some cut and some punch, but also still having the smoother and mellow sound of flats

 So admittedly, I like the sound of this guitar and these strings in general on the neck pickup, but I find at a rock gig, I'm playing on the bridge pickup most of the time. So having a set of flats that doesn't flatten out the tone of my bridge pickup really makes a difference for me. Anyway, I just wanted to talk about these strings. I really like them, and I think this set, Chrome 11's, replaced the G string with an Unwound 19

 But that's been my experience on stage at full volume with overdrive, that the chromes have a pretty fair amount of sustain for a set of flats. Let's go to the bridge pickup and play some bar chord rhythm guitar. So on the bridge pickup, they have a cool sound too, and the guitar still sounds like my bridge pickup is supposed to sound. The flats haven't completely changed the tone of the guitar

D'Addario Chromes are the brightest flat wounds out of the box. They will mellow with time, but they sound the most round wound when new

Has anybody found any flat wounds they love? I have 3 j basses and am thinking about it on one of them but last time I had flat wounds on a different bass I couldn’t get a great slap sounds I loved. Any thoughts appreciated!

Slapping with flat wounds

 You could Bobsled on these. Not good for boom chick playin especially if you sweat (it's 90 degree here) I need every note distinct and crisp i.e.alive

D'Addario XL Chromes: Flatwound Bass Strings

I'm looking for recommendations for a decent set of flatwounds for my BTB 670. I'm not sure which ones will fit as it's a 35" scale bass.

 They sound really good, and the flatwound feature takes most of the unwanted string noise out of the picture. (I suppose acoustic guitar fans have an almost subconscious appreciation of string noise--the sound a finger makes as it moves over the windings on the strings--from listening to masters like Tommy Emmanuel and others. Anyhoo, a new set of these installed on a properly set up guitar sound pretty awesome, if you can afford them. Did I mention the third string is wound? You can still bend strings 1 through 3, but nothing like an unwound third and lighter first and second

Very good at what they're designed for, if you pay the price

 And then about a month ago, I thought, you know, this is just kind of starting to sound a little dead, so maybe I'll try a different set of strings. Then I went and picked up a Fender Blues Junior 3, a little nice, sweet, warm tube amp, and I had the idea to go ahead and I wanted to jam along with some Stevie Ray Bonds, so I tuned the guitar down a half a step, and I'm here to tell you that this is probably the best tone, straight in tone, don't need a dirt pedal, don't need anything. It just sounds so sweet, so warm, so mellow. You can really get a lot of dynamic change in your tone just with the little twist of the volume and all in your fingers and how you play, so I'm here to tell you as an update that I'm going to do a string change again and try something different

As the title suggests, I'm looking for suggestions on some flatwound strings.  I've never played them before but from reading on here, I'm very excited to try them.   I have a sterling stingray 4hh.  I play music ranging from walking country lines to slap funk.  I currently have the flea signature strings on, but after a rowdy night of party jamming, they're a little worse for wear.   Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Looking for suggestions on my first set of flatwounds!

I decided to try these out on my Epiphone es-339. Both flat wound and Jazz light gage are new to me. I am loving the feel, but was expecting a less bright tone from the chromes.  Still light-years ahead of the crap strings that Guitar Center put on the guitar, these babies hold a tune for days

Until yesterday I had only used roundwound strings because I'm a cheapskate and I thought flats must be some kind of gimmick. I read up on the tone differences but couldn't really distinguish them through my phone or laptop speakers. I was curious about the different feel so I got a set of Ernie Ball flats and threw them on yesterday.

I'm really into them! The feel alone is worth it, they're incredibly smooth. Like they almost feel oily or something, they're so easy to slide around on.

The sound difference is pretty big too - I'm playing an ibanez talman 100 into a 25 watt orange crush and it sounds so much fuller with flats. I read that they produce a bit less treble but I seem to be able to EQ it so they still sound bright - but so much more resonant. To me it sounds almost like a piano, honestly.

If you're thinking of trying flats, definitely go for it. I don't think I'm ever going back to rounds!
