More like a big knife?

  Just my limited two cents. Hope this helps someone. : )  Update: I was wrong about this blade. I’ve been carrying it more and more because I didn’t care about damaging it; because I didn’t really like it, if that makes any sense?  What I originally hated about this blade, it’s light build, has turned out to be an EXTREME plus! I really don’t even realize it’s on my belt until I need it

No, it’s not as versatile as my Condor heavy duty kukri, but for most walks in our woods it is actually very convenient without the excess weight and because of the decent price you’re not afraid of abusing it

 But I have also found CRKT's heat treatment to be suspect. I can also say that's definitely the case with this machete. It came out of the box reasonably sharp, but not sharp enough for brush clearing, which is my intended use (blackberries in the Pacific Northwest, specifically). After sharpening a bit, I find the blade will dull quickly and sharpening has become a routine event

 The only downside to the Parangatang is that the handle isn't as comfortable as the CRKT. But until CRKT addresses its heat treat issues, I won't be buying anything else from them - no matter how cool it looks or how comfortable it is to hold. TLDR: find something else unless you just really like sharpening machetes a lot.

Innovative design, but soft and poor edge retention

  I tryed sharpening it, but it made very little difference. It looks to me that the first bevel (closest to the edge) is way too blunt, resulting in the blade not doing the job a machete was intended to do. It worked ok for chopping, but not as good as my $13 camping hatchet.  At this point, i guess I'll try a better hatchet than my camping hatchet

 It simply bounced off the small limbs, forcing me to swing 3-4 times harder and faster and occasionally caused me to loose my balance on the steep slopes. I used it for about 2 hours until I threw it aside and grabbed my camping axe.  I tryed sharpening it, but it made very little difference. Bounces off small branches, blade is practically useless.

 They missed the mark slightly by making the blade way too thin. Just a bit more meat on the blade would have made it 5 stars!! I don't think its even 1/8" thick. the Golok i purchased from gerber was the opposite it was way too thick. to the point of you could injure yourself with the crappy grip

Almost perfect. but....

 I have gone through larger limbs as well with more work. The sheath holds well, but the snaps don’t hug it way to tight. It just does go over the handle, it does grip the runner well just wish it was a little more secure. It’s not uncomfortable on my side either while I’m working

Not too bad, but...

 This blade gets 4 stars because of how thin it is. With the blade profile and length of this knife, it should be thicker. Thickness is less than 1/8" at an even 0.10" thick

Why so thin?

 Holding the knife and flexing the blade for stiffness with my other hand produced some creaking sounds. The blade could be a little thicker. I was tempted to return but decided to keep it, but this would not be my choice of a knife to depend on in a true survival circumstance.

Could be better

I can’t really say anything bad about the machete itself, but it’s advertised as the 18” version, but what they’ll send you is the 12”. Overall length might be 18”, but knives and machetes are not advertised by their OAL, but by their blade length. There is a 18” version, and this is not it. I had the first one replaced hoping to get the right one, and they again sent me a 12” copy
