 The 5HP rail has higher efficiency than the average, there is still room for improvement though here. The PFC converter does a good job delivering high PF readings with 115V input. At normal operating temperatures the average noise output is not high, however it could be even lower given the unit's high efficiency levels, on the other hand the not so high quality TIPO-SC caps need good airflow to live longer and to outlive the 5 year warranty. This is the PSU's full noise map, at normal operating temperatures close to 30C the PSU is silent with loads up to 300W, the 30dBa mark is passed with 350W and higher loads while the PSU enters the 35-40dBa zone with 400W and upper loads

 The cons, not so affordable, loose load regulation, lower than 17ms holdup time, I'm not fond of the cheap OAC caps that it uses on the secondary side and short distance between the peripheral connectors.  We also find a synchronous design on the secondary side and a pair of DCT's converters to generate the minor rails. Table separation is good on the minor rails, the 12V rail doesn't perform so well here, I would like to see below 40mV in the worst case scenario. The lack of in-cable caps is good news for most of you and it is also nice to see thicker 16 AWG gauges up to the first PCI Express connector for lower voltage drops since the same gauges also have to handle the pair of these connectors. Internal design, Corsair helped HEC build this platform which is advanced for a mainly bronze unit in the 80 plus scheme, probably this is why this unit is gold in the cybernetics standard. The CX550F manages to be a little above the lowest gold efficiency threshold in the cybernetics scale earning the gold efficiency certification, instead of the typical double forward topology that I usually find in this category, HEC used a half bridge topology along with an LLC Zonan converter to boost efficiency
