It's worth the investment. I've definitely used my camping gear to heat up soup when the power is out for an extended period. A BRS 3000T backpacking stove is $16. An isobutane/propane canister is another $10.

I received my BRS-3000T today and tested it. Some users have noted heat reflecting and transfering to gas Bottle. Sure enough, during 3,5min boil of half a liter of water in toaks 550, the base of BRS was too hot to touch, and top of gas bottle was 15-20 degrees (Celsius) warmer than before the boil.
