 Sometimes it has struggled to send files over email (cannot say it is 100% on the scanner or the email service connectivity/size) or to PC via WiFi. The scanner or the Brother software on the computer won't tell much about error details at that level.  Configuring it to scan over network to your computer, creating shortcuts on the device screen, could benefit from being better. You need to configure most of the things for this device via the computer app, very few options to configure directly on the scanner screen

 For the few times I tried a card and had this problem, I just went to my old multifunctional printer with scanner.  It came with a very short USB cable, so if you are not planning to have it sitting right next to your PC/laptop, you may need to buy a longer cable/extension USB cord.  Pos - small/portable - different scan transmission mode options - good quality image - fairly good auto adjustment features, including skipping blank pages - good speed scanning and transmitting files. - decent range of options to adjust quality and mode of operation (one or two side, continuous scan into one or separate files, pdf or jpeg, etc) - reliable when you get the configuration right, specially via USB connection to the PC

 They made available another software to download from the firmware upgrade section of the site, though - I only tried their support once as the scanner was skipping all pages on the FTP and server folder options. I ended up fixing the issue myself as the level 2 defaulted to blame on hardware rather than troubleshoot. - connectivity to cloud solutions (e.g

Fairly good if you know how to set it up

 The time to scan seems to be network dependent. If I set my Mac to not use WiFi, but an ethernet connection, it will begin scan in about 10 seconds. For the double feeding, I find it only happens with some paper (bills), and now that most of my bills are electronic, I don't encounter this as often since I don't scan that type of document as often.

Started out as fantastic

  I initially set it up on Wifi and noticed I had to wait, sometimes, 10-15 seconds before it would even start scanning a page. I ordered a USB cable, turned off its Wifi connection, and set it up wired to my computer. With a wired configuration its a little faster, but the startup delay (from the time you push the shortcut button to when it start scanning) can still approach 10 seconds.  Ironic that such a fast scanner is so slow to actually start scanning

  Why?  Does't this subtract from the portability of being able to plug it in to a wall socket and go, and not use a PC?   I have also found that the ads-1700w will not scan to my PR4100 NAS shared folder.  I'm working with brother support but cannot get it to work.  It will scan wirelessly to a PC, even the usb memory stick on the NAS, but not the NAS shared folder.    The loss of direct scan to dropbox without having to hook up a PC and the NAS san to feature might be a deal killer unless they can get this fixed
