Adding 2 more DIMMs of memory to 2 existing DIMMs does not mean they are guarantee cooperate like purchasing 4 DIMMs of memory together.
But this is only true for Crucial, mixing with any other vendor is a risk at XMP, and while it is likely to work for DDR4 kits from G.Skill and others, you can bet money on it not working very well with Corsair, who uses the highest number of ICs of any vendor in the industry across their kits (I know of at least 13 in use right now), randomly, and they're not tied to the part number, but rather a version number that is found only on the DIMMs themselves. This means even if you wanted to match versions (which is essential to even stand a chance of combining kits), you have no way of knowing what you'll get, since the part number has no bearing on what IC you'll get (unless it's a guaranteed b-die kit, which is the only known quantity they sell these days). But the rule of thumb is that if it's XMP, it should be bought as a single kit for the best chance of success (since nothing is ever a guarantee).
