The Novice Freebird is still, in my opinion, it's more designed for the way back down.

50/50 resort & backcountry ski/binding combo

I'd put them on something like the Voile Hyper V6, Black Crows Navis Freebirds (or Camox Freebirds if you want them narrower), Rossi Escaper Nano 97s. It looks as if you're looking for something a little narrower than these, but in my experience, a few extra millimeters isn't going to change your skiing ability if you're already comfortable in the backcountry. My best day of skiing of all time was on the Head Kore 117s, but I wasn't skinning.

\- quick turns in trees and moguls, hunting for pow. \- playful, going off every cliff drop / jump there is. In terms of weight I'm leaning more towards a heavier ski for more downhill performance, as most tours would just be day trips, nothing overly exhausting requiring a super light ski. I'm Currently looking at the Black Crows Camox Freebird and the Navis Freebird; I like the navis for the extra width and weight, and the camox for more flex / playfulness.
