 Like you said, you know, you can have a ski that's lightweight but is also going to charge. Tracer 98 is for serious touring people, you know, and it's really cool now that there's everything in the line with pre-cut skins, multiple touring binding options, great touring poles, Gore-Tex outerwear. I mean, everything in the line now to really outfit anybody who is a serious backcountry user, along with people who are maybe like new to learning backcountry skiing. And then, of course, with the way these skis are intelligently shaped to be the, you know, the best skis to enjoy the downhill as well

 Todd, do you have some comments specific to the Tracer 98? Yeah, Tracer 98 ski that I'm really hyped to have in my quiver, and I will take it out usually when, as a touring ski, when weight has really become a primary concern. And that's, you know, either maybe a really long mission or just kind of maybe certain spring days where I know I'm maybe not needing a wider width for pow purposes. Ian, when do you use it most? Well, generally, I'll use the 98 if, you know, I'm not skiing, you know, deep, deep snow, fresh snow. If the conditions are, let's say, boot top or less, I think it's a really good ski for that

 You know, it's an exciting time, I think, within the line just to have all of these things offered and have them all be the best too. Strong rider who enjoys the trees and most untouched areas at resorts. I am coming off rustler 9’s which i love. I ski all over and need a quiver of 1. I ride fairly hard, and enjoy hitting natural features. Im looking at Black crow justis or camox, rustler 10’s, enforcer 100’s, or anything in that category. The black crows look pretty sick to me tho. Any suggestions? Not sure on more playful or damp skis?

The Armada '21-'22 Tracer 98

I've been skiing for years, but only rented. It has been mostly resort/on-piste skiing, but I would like to get more into alpine touring. I'm looking for a one-ski quiver setup that will let me do that: Mostly on-piste with occasional alpine touring.
  
I feel very comfortable on blues and easier black diamonds, but would like to continue to push myself to get better. I tend to ski on the more aggressive side, and I ski in the PNW.

So far, I'm thinking K2 Mindbender 99Ti + Shift 13 MNC bindings + boots that feel good after a fitting.

One concern is that the Mindbenders + Shifts might be a bit on the heavy side for uphill, but I'm guessing could probably suck it up...

One-ski quiver setup for 80% resort / 20% touring?

 So that's the Tracer 98 it's a fantastic ski we've really liked it over the past few years there haven't been any construction or shape changes for 2021 just a subtle cosmetic update so same performance as we got last year and no surprise really because it was proven to perform well last year so why change a good thing. Head on over to Ski Essentials if you want to learn more about it there's more feedback from other people that skied it over the past couple years you can also leave us a question or a comment on that page and we'll reply to you as soon as we can maybe you've skied it and you want to give us your kind of anecdotal two cents that would be great and yeah we should have these for sale on Ski Essentials pretty much all season long too. The Tracer 98 can be a popular ski and Armada doesn't make a outrageous amount of skis so it may sell out at some point in the season but if you're looking for a pair and you don't see one on our site just give us a call or send us an email and we'll see if we can track one down for you so thanks guys and we'll see you on the slopes.

 So capabilities as an alpine touring ski for sure. So let's talk about shape and construction and then we'll kind of get into performance just right away lifting it up.  There's enough torsional stiffness that it can hold an edge. So I think Armada says this in their catalog and I think it's a reasonable thing to say about this ski is it could certainly be a one ski quiver so to speak as long as you're the type of skier that is kind of a little bit more geared at least mentally towards maneuverability and soft snow use instead of like high speeds on groomers and the highest level of precision and responsiveness or stiffness. 2021 SkiEssentials.com Ski Test - Armada Tracer 98

 98 millimeters underfoot, this one is the 188, and this one has an 18.5 meter turn radius, so it does turn a little bit faster than some of these other wider freeride skis, and that's just kind of a testament to its all-mountain profile that goes along with that freeride shape and personality. Pretty simple construction in terms of a wood core, it's just straight Karuba, so it's pretty darn light. They add a couple of things, they have their adaptive mesh, which is this crisscross material here

 So they're removing material that you don't quite need from a structural perspective. This lightens the ski, lightens the swing weight, adds to the playful nature as well. Pretty much a full sidewall underneath that cap there as well, so really good edge grip out of this ski. In terms of rocker profile and taper shape, pretty low camber underfoot, but that still helps it kind of ski a little bit flatter and really well-rounded in softer snow

2022 Armada Tracer 98 - SkiEssentials com Ski Test

The Tracer 98 is lighter  (1600g) than the BC120 (1816g). The QST 106 is heavier than both (2130g). The Tracer has a light construction similar to the BC1120 (looking at the surface-to-weight ratio both are amongst the lightest construction you can get without going too specialized for uphill), but all skis have similar stiffnesses (the Tracer is a bit softer, but this is good for light skis).

I am in need of a true 50/50 ski to add to my collection. I do most of my touring on my Bent Chetler 120 and it is amazing in soft snow conditions. But when it gets harder and espacially when the terrain gets steeper, it isnt optimal on the uphill. Now i need a ski that can do both, touring in steep terrain and firm conditions and for usage inbounds on and off piste.

I have two options, the Salomon QST 106 or the Armada Tracer 96. I can get both, used but in good conditions with a shift binding and skins for around 500-550€. 

Do you guys have any experience with one of those skis or can you compare them? Let me know.
