Arc'teryx Delta MX

All in all, I would say it's a really good hoodie.

I bought a Delta MX thinking I would use it for the same purposes you are thinking. I returned it because I realized it was overkill and I'd be pissed to have a campfire spit a hot coal at my $200 fleece. The Delta LT is more casual though and less expensive, especially in the outlet.

It's the most versatile jacket I have. I wear it for a variety of activities for temps ranging from 10-50F. I wear it as an outer layer for cooler temps (40-50F) for lower output activities (climbing, hiking, casual use) and down to about 10F for higher output activities (XC skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing) and I'll add a windshell or hardshell over it depending on conditions.

Pretty nice jacket fit for runs or something a little more active than walks or hikes. Thumb holes at the end of sleeves prevent them from rolling up, and the chest pocket (with interior headphone wire hole) is just large enough to fit my >6" phone, but small enough to keep it from jostling around. ...

Absolutely awesome hard-Fleece for climbing in colder days!. Fortrez & Delta MX are probably some of my most used pieces. Can recommend for everything from hiking to any sorts of (outdoor) climbing / mountaineering. The built-in half face balaclava is also a nice addition since I don’t always have a mask on me, and those things have sadly become a strange reality...

The delta MX is my go to standalone active fleece for high output in cold conditions, but i rarely wear it in a layering system as a midlayer over an r1. Delta LT is a good active layering fleece, but I still think patagonia nailed this category a bit better with the r1. These are both fleeces I reach for when Im doing high output activity, so I'm not sure they perfectly fit your use case. I realize the insanity of me saying this on the arc sub, but for moderate output general use in winter without a hood, I almost always reach for my decathalon grid fleece.

The Delta MX half zip hoody has become my #1 mid-layer since getting it. It seems to have the perfect balance of keeping me warm, regulating heat, and wicking moisture away from my body. The hood fits perfectly under a helmet, making a hat optional, and the built in balaclava is a nice option should...

I think you’re going the wrong direction if you want something less warm than the Aptin. I run in my Aptin down to about 25F. I can’t imagine running in my R1 or my Delta MX, I’d be sweating my tail off in less than 10 minutes.
