The best keyboard for iPad Pro that we've tested is the Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad 2021. This folio board only works with iPads as it uses the Smart Connector to connect with and draw power. It comes in two size variants, 11 inch and 12.9 inch, so it works with either size of iPad Pro you own. The 11 inch model we tested is also compatible with the fourth-generation iPad Air.

Its design is similar to a MacBook keyboard, though it lacks dedicated media keys. However, it does include a trackpad, so you don't always have to rely on the touchscreen for navigation. There's also a USB-C port on the side of the keyboard, which you can use to charge your iPad. Also, if you tend to work at night, every key is individually backlit with a bright white, so they're very visible.

Unfortunately, it's only designed for iPads and can't connect to any other device like an iPhone. Also, while the folio offers additional protection on the iPad's back and front, it doesn't cover the sides.  Pro weighs this big one 640 grams and then without the iPad. The case by itself weighs another 702 grams, so it weighs more than the iPad so combined. They are thicker and heavier than a MacBook Air. And so, while it's not nearly as elegant to open and close like a laptop would be, the one thing you can say about this case is: it is well built to get this in place

 In a laptop you open this by the hinge and all the weight, all the guts in the computer are at the bottom and the top is just a light weight screen. So opening and closing it pretty elegant not a whole lot of problems there, but with the iPad in this case, or any case like this, the iPad is the computer, and so most of that weight is up top, and so it can feel a little bit top-heavy. This is part of why they made this case, so heavy is to try to combat this a little bit to try to make it feel a little bit less top-heavy. But still it's not perfect

 Then the keyboard is really nice. I think it's, the nicest part it's scissor switches, so it has a nice travel and it actually feels clicky like the new MacBook Air and 16 inch. Macbook Pros keys and since the board is stiff and well built, there's actually no flex at all, unlike some laptops and then it's backlit, which no doubt sucks a little bit of extra power from the iPads battery. But I like the back light

All of these are rational choices, but they have real-world consequences on ergonomics. The Magic Keyboard turns the iPad into a great laptop, though one that’s a little heavier and thicker than you might expect. But to me, the whole point of the iPad is that it isn’t a laptop.

Look, I’m just going to make a comparison here that I know is going to annoy a bunch of people, but I think it’s instructive. I have Microsoft’s Surface Pro X, which has a 13-inch screen, LTE, and runs Windows on ARM. Depending on your configurations, the price of the Surface Pro X and its keyboard is roughly comparable to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard

Now, trackpad support on iPadOS and within Apple’s apps is great, but trackpad support on a bunch of third-party apps is absolutely not. Any app that doesn’t use Apple’s standard APIs for creating buttons or text views feels off-kilter with the trackpad. Stuff you can swipe with your finger can’t be swiped with the trackpad, text selection can be a fiasco, and the cursor doesn’t always do its neat shape-shifting tricks. Google’s apps are particularly guilty here, but they’re far from the only ones

Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro review

First mech keyboard after selling my Magic Keyboard. Strongly undecided between K3 Low Profile with Gateron Mechanical brown switches and K2 V2 with brown switches (only RGB with aluminium frame available now). Mixed programming / typing usage, no gaming. There aren't many reviews and comparisons between these two models online yet, probably because shipments started a few days ago. Any advice? Pro and Cons of both models, in terms of comfort (I've read that the K2v2 is not ideal and it's better to combine it with a wrist rest), feedback while typing, possibility of customization (keys and switches) and ease of finding replacement components.

Overall this keyboard is very nice. It’s good for a desk or kitchen counter. This makes the iPad useful like a laptop. The benefit is that you don’t have to worry about connecting to Bluetooth and the keyboard instantly connects and works

 It is also a nuisance to fiddle with the pencil. Great concept to have it charge with iPad but you’ll become annoyed by it when you aren’t using it. I’d prefer it to lock into the case to charge and I might use the keyboard as a dock. This iPad keyboard combo is top heavy as well so best suited for a desk or flat surface

 I think if I had that with a keyboard that clipped onto it and also charged and held the pencil would better fit my use. Also the ads make it look so easy to snap it on and off the keyboard but putting it on is either two hands or you have to grip it in just the right place to keep your fingers out of the way. I’ll update once I live with it for awhile but first impressions is the look and build are great but the functions seems limited. A MacBook Air and an iPad for drawing almost make more sense but obviously depending on your budget and workflow this might be something to consider

Not what I expected.

Earlier this year I moved to the iPad Air 4, mainly because the new keyboard / my previous iPad Pro 1st gen keyboard was amazing. The Air keyboard I can type fast without unexpected key locations throwing typos into my stream, especially with the special characters. Honestly if Samsung had an iPad like keyboard I would not have moved, although for doc working the wide screen isn’t ideal on the Tab S6. Since it was quarantine and I was full time WFH I didn’t spring for the LTE iPad

 I still have my gen1 iPad and my gen3 iPad and both still work and don’t feel like old crap (gen 1 does feel like a tank or a weapon), vs. my old Lenovo tablet from around the same time, and my Google Nexus tablets, all feel like cheap, slow, pile of garbage.

The iPad Air is going to be the best solution for 5 years. Apple build quality is superb. I still have my gen1 iPad and my gen3 iPad and both still work and don’t feel like old crap (gen 1 does feel like a tank or a weapon), vs. my old Lenovo tablet from around the same time, and my Google Nexus tablets, all feel like cheap, slow, pile of garbage

I'm looking a tablet for mostly digital note taking, simple drawing, and small media consumption. My researches result torn me between ipad air 4 or samsung tab s6. The price between new ipad Air 4 64GB +  2nd gen pencil = new samsung tab s6 6/128 GB in my country.

I would like to keep my tablet at least for 5 years. As I know, ipad would last longer as apple give longer support in software base. Would ipad air 4 or tab s6 still be okay in next 5 years? Which one would last longer? This is my deal breaker.

Other considerations, I'm not into apple ecosystem as my laptop is windows os and my phone is android so I won't use the benefit of ecosystem fully. I'd like using some apps that available in Apple Store like Goodnotes but s6 has bigger storage and S Notes free

100% honest review: Good product, it’s sturdy and it works well for what I need. however, i use it for school and just on the first day i’ve already noticed some cons that affected my opinion of it heavily. for starters, it’s like 2lbs of weight which added to the ipad is kind of annoying. Also, when typing on a doc you can’t just hold delete, you have to hit the backspace for each individual letter
