I recently purchased the new Anker Powerhouse II 800, is the best solar generator I've used so far, I haven't had any issues with overloading or anything else. I got it for a great deal & in extremely happy with it.

I live in an apartment in Florida,  after the Texas power issues and living through a couple of Hurricanes I  want to up my prep for power. I cannot have a gas powered generator so my only option is the have a power station that I can charge before a disaster or recharge though the car.  Solar is not really an option because my balcony faces east.  I was looking at the  Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 500 but I am not sure if that is the best option. I would like to power a modem, laptop, phone, kindle and a fan. The ultimate goal would be freezer and fridge but that is probably not possible.  Budget would be around $500.

Portable Power Station for Apartment

  I have two of their high-powered usb chargers and 5 of their PowerCores in various editions and all of them have been five star in terms of fit and finish and performance.  Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the PowerHouse 11 800 and here is why.  First thing out of the chute , the device I received was *apprently* defective right out of the box. That was no juice from the "auto plug"

  Based on the lack of documentation and quality control concerns I feel like must deduct one star.  Otherwise the fit and finish seem to be what I expected  I ran my CPAP machine DC to DC for 10 hours and still had 90% capacity left.  I ran my electric blanket via the inverter for 8 hours and still had 55% capacity left.  And just for grins I ran a 75 watt light bulb (pulling 72 watts) for 1 hour via the inverter and had 90% capacity left

  The performance is just about what I expected when I bought the unit. I also appreciate the fact that I can charge it up in short order using the USB power cube that came with my MacBook Pro so I don't have to pull out that wanky AC charger.  I have yet to test it with solar but I have no reason to expect any issues there.  Bottom line, the unit meets my expectations and had it not been for the lack of documentation and concerns about quality control I would have given it five stars

Also if possible it needs to be able to charge via usb c pd.. i was thinking of something like the smallest Jackery or an ecoflow but don't know if that would take hours to charge over DC since they don't have USB C PD.. any suggestions?

Battery suggestions?

 So it completely discharged all of it power within 30 day, while it was off, the light was off and nothing wass plugged into it. I plugged it in again to recharge and make sure it doesn't discharge again, since I leave in less than a week and I WAS relying on this for power. Now I am seeking other sources of power in case this one continues to fail. Very disappointed

 It was delivered on July 12, and I plugged it in and fully charged it. Yesterday, August 13, turned it on to be sure it was still charged and it was at 1% of power.  Once I have a little bit more time with it, I will update this review as warranted. First impressions, are good this is a nice looking battery station, it has plenty of juice for what I need it for.  Update 5/13/22 This thing is working great. I highly recommend you give Anker a try

The unit is very expensive for what you get. Other options with more battery power and usability are easily found. I historically was willing to pay a little more for the Anker service and quality. Unfortunately this unit didn’t live up to the history of the company on either point

Only one flaw

 Plug everything in, and on this strangely sunny (for the moment) Seattle spring day I was able to get it charging over solar. This is a big win over the original, which had a three-conductor connector to charge that I was simply not able to sort out so that I *could* charge with other, smaller panel sets. It'd probably be a little slow with only one panel set, though, so you'll want to buy a couple and get some adapters to connect in parallel. (Note, don't connect those panels in series - overvoltage will probably blow this tank to smithereens

Either way, 20 pounds is pretty heavy - but some of the older jump boxes I've owned in the past have weighed in at about 20 pounds themselves with their lead-acid batteries, and were far lower on amp-hour capacity.  This tank comes deactivated out of the box - to turn it on, you first have to charge it. So I did, and a full charge - much like the original - can take a few hours

 Word from the wise, never run the humidifier or heated hose on a battery unless you don't want a good night's sleep.  As an added bonus, it comes with two lights - a spotlight that has two brightness levels and will flash SOS in Morse code on a third setting, and a LED warm-white lamp on the back with three brightness levels that can be used as a light for whatever you may need one for. Anker does it again!

 You have to make sure the button light is off when not using. For the USB side it will auto turn-off but not the AC side. Also the USB button is the button to push when you want to quickly check the battery percentage. I recommend using a label maker and printing out instructions to tape to the battery
