If you're mixing in some production stuff at a hobbyist level with gaming and you think the extra performance bump over a 7600X would actually be meaningful to you, then sure. But if that doesn't sound like something you're doing, then just buy something on either side of it

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core CPU Review & Benchmarks vs. i7-12700KF, R9 7900X, & More

 Well, as you can see behind me, the test benches have wound down because we are on our last

 CPU for the Ryzen 7000 launch, it's the 7700X.

 We saved this one for last because, not sure if you've seen our history with the R7 SKUs

 lately, but, so, just in case, we thought maybe this one would go that direction as

 Actually, surprise, it was the 7600X we didn't like this time, or at least didn't like the

 The CPU is fine, it's because everything else that goes into a 7600X system is so expensive.

 We have that one up, we have the 7950X review up, we have the 7900X review up.

 Let's get started with AMD's new 8-core CPU, the R7 7700X, this one priced at $400.

 It is an 8-core 16-thread CPU, follows the same trend as the past Ryzen 7 CPUs most recently,

 and at $400, it's positioned between, predictably, the 7900X, which is $550, and the 7600X, which

 Now, we're going to get straight into the review for this one.

 So we'll go through the numbers for thermals, frequency, gaming, production, stuff like

 And for thermal and frequency, which we're starting with, quick reminder here.

 So although it boosts to 90 to 95 degrees Celsius for all the Ryzen 7000 series CPUs,

 it does not outright ignore power limits.

 The power limits are still in place, and that means that it'll boost to the temperature

 And if you are, let's say you're running liquid nitrogen or something ridiculous, chilled

 water, it's not still going to push to 95C.

 That would be like thousands of watts if you're on liquid nitrogen.

 So it does still have a power limit and a socket limit, but you can bypass those if

 All right, we're going to start with thermals and frequencies boiled down into one simple

 As we covered in our other reviews, the boosting behavior is different now with Zen 4 versus

 The Ryzen 7000 series is set up to first boot to a thermal limit of about 90 to 95 degrees

 Celsius and sit there, running as fast as possible without breaching that thermal limit.

 It still follows the current and power limits and BIOS, but thermal is just an added variable.

 This shows the average T die at steady state plus a multiplier for average all core frequency

 You can multiply the red number by 100 to get core clock.

 The reason we did this is just because they both fit on the same scale for the chart.

 The 7700X follows the same trend as the others, landing in the expected 90 to 95 degrees Celsius

 All four CPUs run with AMD's new behavior here.

 The benefit of keeping Zen 4 at its thermal limit instead of trying to run it a traditional

 way is that you get higher core frequency, just like in GPUs.

 The 7700X ran at an average of 5188 MHz or about 95 MHz faster than the 7950X.

 Likewise, the 7700X tested about 40 MHz faster on average than the 7900X.

 The only CPU to clock higher than the 77X was the 7600X at about 30 MHz faster.

 All of this means that in core limited games, where they're not really going to utilize
