you see a ~~year~~ 6month old Zen2 Ryzen 4800U vs. M1 and they trade blows evenly depending on single core or multi core test. Both are low wattage and 8c.

But anyway, the ryzen 5 would be better in video rendering aswell as code compilation. From the tests I've seen gaming performance is almost equal, with the i5 only getting any real advantage in games like RDR2 and the ryzen 5 usually getting about 3-4 fps more in GTAV and an average of 1fps more in other games. That is quite dependent on the cooling solution your laptop has though since thermal throttling can be quite the problem in modern systems. If its prefromance your after and you can sacrifice things like windows hello or a thouch screen, I would recommend you go for an i7-1165g7 or a ryzen 7 4800u, since they usually arent that much more expensive.

Specifically the only thing that makes sense to compare right now is the Ryzen 7 4800U vs the M1. Compare those two in multi-threaded you'll see AMD's very competitive with the M1 in performance/watt even on an outdated architecture and process node. There's nothing extraordinary about Apple's M1 especially compared to what AMD have been able to do on Renoir at 15W on what is comparatively a shoestring R&D budget.
