The Zircon MultiScanner A200 is an excellent tool that is easy to use, accurate, and won't break the bank. The A200 has modes to detect wood, metal, and live wires, as well as a deep scan mode for penetrating thick walls.  Its center marking was dead center in our tests, and though the edge sensing was off by a little, it erred on the inside so you'll still hit your stud. Thanks to its large illuminated screen, marking notch, and illuminated arrow that's projected onto the wall, using the Zircon in the field was easy even in dark or awkward positions. 
The metal and AC modes of the Zircon A200 worked well enough, though it tended to pick up on both from several inches away.  If you need to accurately locate metal, you can recalibrate the A200 overtop of metal objects to decrease sensitivity and more accurately mark metal objects.  While it has an ergonomic shape that's comfortable to hold with your right hand it's less than ideal for your left; although still easy to use and mark accurately either way.  Despite its shortcomings, the A200 is well suited to most home projects while keeping costs &#40;and learning curves&#41; down.

This new feature-rich stud finder is, alas - no more accurate than my original Zircon (which is probably 20+ years old by now). The picture of the can in the ceiling with an oblong hole is the fault of my old unit - not the new one. So I did my research, and thought this new updated model would be the answer to my challenges. I wanted accuracy and depth, and finding live A/C would be a plus - not a replacement for accuracy, though

This brand is good, but this old model is not accurate and always has error reading. I would suggest new model.

The StudSensor A100 is Zircon’s newest edge locating electronic stud finder that is sold exclusively on Amazon. The A100 is designed with a smooth, ergonomic rubber grip allowing for a comfortable yet secure hold for any size hand, at any angle. This stud finder uses the most recent technology in density detecting software and circuitry. The scanner has 2 scanning modes to locate the edges of wood and metal studs and joists behind walls, floors, and in ceilings up to 1.5 inches (38 mm) deep. In StudScan Mode, the SS A100 locates the edges of shallower wood or metal studs up to 0.75 of an inch (19 mm) deep. Switch over to DeepScan Mode to double the scanning depth to 1.5 inches (38 mm). This stud sensor is programmed with a WireWarning Detection feature that indicates the presence of live unshielded electrical wires up to 2 inches (50 mm) deep when using either stud scanning modes. Finding studs using this edge finding tool is simple. To get started, install one brand new 9V alkaline battery (not included). Place the unit flat against the wall and press the Power Button to calibrate the sensor. Once you hear a beep indicating calibration is complete, continue to hold the Power Button and slowly slide the tool across the surface. The easy-to-read LCD will alert you as the stud detector approaches the edge of the stud in both scanning modes. Once the edge is detected, the patented arrow-shaped SpotLite Pointer will shine, the translucent base will illuminate, and an audio tone will sound. DO NOT DRILL HERE! Instead, mark the spot in the “V’ marker groove at the head of the tool and continue past the stud. Repeat the process in the opposite direction and mark the opposite edge of the stud. The center of the stud is midway between the two marks. Make sure to note whether the WireWarning Detection is alerting you to live, unshielded AC wiring before drilling between the two marks into the center of the stud. With the Zircon StudSensor A100, you can safely maneuver through the most complicated of projects with the professional confidence that comes from owning a Zircon.

For what it offers, the Zircon StudSensor A100 is an excellent tool. Although it's fairly simple, the few features it possesses are really nice and quite accurate. We found the edge sensing to be accurate to within 1/16 of an inch, and the illuminated arrow it casts on the wall makes for a really nice way to see and mark studs. The Zircon has two settings, StudScan and DeepScan, depending on how deep the material is. The Deepscan can sense 1.5 inches deep. It also does a good job of sensing wires and AC power with its wire warning.
Unlike the fancier models, the A100 doesn't differentiate between wood and metal studs, nor does it have many other features, although Zircon offers other premium &#40;read: pricier&#41; models that do. The A100 also must be held in a certain way to hit the button, although it's fairly ergonomic. Still, this was one of our favorite tools and is useful and accurate for most projects while keeping costs low.

  Finally, if you need to use Zircon warranty, they will make you pay to ship the part to them and make you pay ten dollars to cover shipping a replacement back, making their warranty service of limited use. If you are looking for a good stud finder, look elsewhere!

Poor Accuracy and Quality

The device itself is not bad. The problem is that I paid a lot for a new unit and what I got was used/refurb inside a cardboard box in bubble wrap with a used manual. If you are going to charge new price, send new item, otherwise, describe as used and price it so. NOT ok
