Shut up and just get up to temp!

 When I first got it, I tried searing steaks and put lobster tails in at 500 and that kind of stuff. But now I set it between 225-275 for basically everything unless I realize it's not going to be done in time for dinner in which case I turn it up. The only exceptions are high heat for poultry (Ill do 165-225 first, then crank it up to 350-400 to finish it) or when I put it to 500 to make pizza on a pizza steel.

 For me, the "must haves" are being able to monitor/control temp from my phone, being reliable at holding a temperature, and having good insulation for winter smoking. The ironwood fulfills all that.

1. The smoke flavor will not be the same. With pellet grills, you get a lot more convenience at the price of smokiness.

Im looking to maybe buy my first pellet grill. In the past I always had a dedicated smoker and a dedicated gas grill. Hamburgers and steaks in the gas grill and smoked meats in the smoker. So I have several questions about this idea of one grill that does both. 

1: Does a pellet grill smoke as good as a dedicated smoker? ( everything I’m reading is yes, but I have never used one) 
2: does a pellet grill cook steaks and burgers and seafood as good as a gas grill?
3: with so many choices, what do you look for in a pellet grill? ( what are must haves)
4: Which Brands do I stay away from? 

Any other info you can share with someone starting out( dos and don’ts)

Size wise I have a big family so I don’t want a small one.

Price. Yes, lets talk about price. The Pro series is $799 for the 575, and $999 for the 780. The Ironwood on the other hand is $1,199 for the 650, and $1,499 for the 885

I know I'm about to make some people upset, but here we go. In my own personal opinion, there is absolutely no advantage to buying the Ironwood series compared to the Pro series, and the only financial investment worth making over the Pro series is the Timberline series. Let me explain:

 I bought a reasonably priced range extender from Amazon the TP Link WiFi AC750 extender RE220 for $19.99. Now many people have struggled because they weren’t using the required 2.4 GHZ router signal

0 GHZ router however the above mentioned TP Link extender actually separated my dual bands so I was able to choose the 2.4 GHZ band for compatibility. Follow the WIFi setup instructions for the grill and the range extender and presto ! My grill gets adequate wireless signal from about 100’ away from the router and has never dropped connection. This WiFi connectivity from Traeger is vastly superior to the $200 Thermoworks outboard unit I was using that dropped out all the time

 All right, so I said that if you're a certain type of person, this'll be an easy decision for you. What type of person is that? Well, how should I put this? If you're the type of person that this is not a major investment decision for you and it's just sort of like a one-off purchase on, not a whim, but you can purchase it and you can afford it and you don't really have to think that hard about whether you can afford this grill at this price point, then this is the grill for you. Honestly, I talked to a lawyer at a party about a year ago and he asked me, because he knows that I'm really into barbecue, what is the best pellet grill I can buy? And I said, hands down, I didn't even mention any other pellet grills. I just said, get a Traeger

 It probably won't have all of the features that this Traeger Pro 575 has. It might not be the highest quality, but it's going to be at a much lower price point, maybe 300 to $400, much easier decision to make. And maybe in two to three years, you can find out what you like and you don't like, and you can upgrade to a Traeger, which has all of the features that you want, and the wifi and all of that D2 direct drive technology, the wifier app, the variable speed fan. It might be something to consider if you don't have as much money right now, and this is kind of out of your price range
