I got the Viofo A129 because it does well in the heat. Make sure your memory card is rated for hot climates, too.

Brand new to the sub, since I live in Texas is it ok to leave your dash cam inside the car with the Texas heat? Will it mess up the dash cam?

 Sub $50 home security cameras have equal or better video quality. And face it, that's all these "Dash Cams" are - security cameras mounted into a car. They all come with the camera, a power wire, etc. The only difference is that one has GPS (which does not cost $150

 Video quality is gonna be less, but at least you got every angle of your vehicle covered..  The video from the rear camera at night is pretty terrible unless you are driving in downtown with a street light every 10 feet, and no cars around you. Its very grainy, and the glare from the headlights from the vehicles behind you make the footage almost use less

 Quality is "meh." It's not great, but it's not the worse I've seen. Sub $50 home security cameras have equal or better video quality. And face it, that's all these "Dash Cams" are - security cameras mounted into a car

  They put the microSD card slot on the opposite side of the camera from how it detaches from the mounting base, so when you push the card in, or push to remove the card, its pops the camera of the mounting base. And when you have this thing mounted behind your mirror, its not easy to line up the camera with the mount to reattach them.  Now on to video quality.

Design not compatible with usage.

 It's $10 more than the old A129 Duo at the time of recording, but it's fully $70 cheaper than the Pro 4K. So it's quite likely to represent a better value proposition, and that's what I'll be looking at in this video. And I do need to say thank you to Blackbox My Car for sending me this review unit to take a look at. I need to disclose that, although I haven't committed to saying anything particularly positive, as you'll find out

 It has a very good value for money proposition. If you wanted better performance like 4K, high resolution, then you could step up to the A129 Pro, then you would get that resolution on paper. But it's quite a lot more money to spend, and I think if you were willing to spend that total amount of money, you might be better off selecting a different brand at that point. But if you don't want to spend that much money, then down where we are with this camera, I'd say it's fairly hard to beat

 So that brings us to the conclusion of this review. Now remember, I have been reviewing a version 1.0 firmware camera, so hopefully any issues that I've discussed have been sorted or will be sorted with time. The value in this camera I think really lies in its price points

Review: Viofo A129 PLUS Duo dash cam front/rear, parking mode, 1440p60 f/1.6, features & problems

 I'm going to do another dashcam review today. This is the Viofo A129 Plus Duo, which is another front and rear camera setup with a dedicated parking functionality.

 I previously reviewed the A129 Duo, which was the sort of old version of this, and there is also in this series a A129 Pro, which is a 4K camera.

 This is a 1440p camera, so it's sort of halfway between the two in terms of specs, but in terms of price it's a bit lower.

 It's $10 more than the old A129 Duo at the time of recording, but it's fully $70 cheaper than the Pro 4K.

 So it's quite likely to represent a better value proposition, and that's what I'll be looking at in this video.

 And I do need to say thank you to Blackbox My Car for sending me this review unit to take a look at. I need to disclose that, although I haven't committed to saying anything particularly positive, as you'll find out.

 You get a little discount, and it doesn't have to be a purchase on a Viofo product, or certainly not this specific product. Buy anything you like.

 On paper, the Plus Duo has much the same fundamental hardware characteristics as the rest of the A129 series.

 The lens is a f1.6 aperture, the sensor is a Sony Starvis chip, and it has features like GPS tracking, it has a shock sensor, and it has Wi-Fi so that you can connect to it through your phone via the Viofo app, and you can access recordings and things like that.

 Viofo advertise this camera in some places as 2K, which I have to be pedantic about for a second in order to clear up any confusion.

 2K is technically a video format very similar to Full HD 1080p, which has a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels, which is very close to the 2048 of actual 2K.

 The horizontal resolution of 1440p or Quad HD, and what you get from this camera, is actually 2560 pixels, so it's more like 2.5K or 2.6K, and I don't understand why they under advertise this.

 Better to stick to the 1440p notation, just in case you were confused.

 In the box is most of what's required for installation. This is the long USB cable for the rear camera.

 There are some self-adhesive cable clips, a plastic interior trim lever tool, a shorter USB cable intended for PC connection, I think.

 And then in here is another long cable, together with a cigarette lighter power supply, which I'm not interested in using as I prefer a hard wire install.

 There are some spare self-adhesive stickers for attaching the cameras to the windscreens.

 And finally, Viofo give you this nice little SD card reader, which I found quite helpful for those of us with PCs without inbuilt card readers.

 I prefer a hard wire install because it gets the wires out of the way, but also because it's basically required for a proper parking mode setup,

 because you need to supply the camera with both permanent power and also the switched ACC or ignition circuit so that it knows when to switch modes.

 Viofo supply as an extra, which you have to buy separately, but it's only $15, so it's pretty trivially cheap,

 a 3-wire power adapter kit which does all this for you, and it also includes a voltage cutoff switch that stops the camera draining your battery while parked.

 So I'm using that in this review, and I won't spend any more time on it as I have a complete install video which covers all of this separately,

 which I encourage you to watch if you're unfamiliar with the process.

 The GPS base accepts power and works properly with parking setup.

 This used to not be the case with Viofo's older cameras, so this is an improvement.

 But it still does no pass-through for the rear cam, meaning that the rear camera cable does still have to be plugged into the side of the front camera,

 which is just slightly irritating to aestheticists, and practically it's not ideal because removing the camera from its mount also means unplugging this cable.

 Speaking of the rear camera, it apparently now has its own onboard electronics,

 and although it looks identical and seems to give an identical video result, because of this change it requires a different USB cable,

 which means for an upgrader from the old A129 like me, you cannot reuse the old cable.

 But that obviously makes no difference for a new install.

 As you can tell, I'm basing this review partly as a comparison with the 1080p A129 Duo,

 and I'll show you some comparison footage taken with both cameras running alongside each other.

 The A129 Plus essentially has an upgraded resolution and frame rate,

 and that's about it, except for some minor feature differences in firmware.

 One improvement I did notice is that the Plus does boot quite considerably faster from the power off state,
