 Number 16: The Laptop Compartment: I actually have to say that this is my favorite compartment or laptop compartment out of any other bag I have ever owned. and that's just because it's divided into three sections. You can have one section for your documents in your papers, you have one section for your ipad. Right now, I have a standard size ipad in here, but you can fit a larger one in and it has room for up to a 17-inch laptop

 The other thing they change though is that the zipper doesn't go as low as the previous version, so that means you just can't open it as wide. but it's still fairly wide, so not a huge issue. Number 17: They've actually added a reflective strip on either side of the laptop zipper. Number 18: These straps are slightly different

 The version i have here is the all black, but you can see all the different options that they have on the company site and then moving into the materials on the exterior. You have a rip, stop nylon that feels pretty lightweight, but like it's still going to hold up well to rougher usage, it also feels like it's going to offer a nice amount of weather resistance, and then you have ykk zippers all throughout the bag that have worked Really smoothly continuing along the outside on the front, as i mentioned earlier, you have webbing that's going to allow you to attach additional accessories with something like a carabiner. This is normally the spot where i would attach my hero clip, but you have two rows of this. Webbing one on each side, so a lot of different ways that you can attach items and then you have on the bottom of the bag, compression straps that are going to allow you to hold something like a yoga mat or maybe a jacket

I just placed a little manicure set that i like to have with me when i'm on the go and then on the right, i placed this usb power block that i use for charging my macbook pro and my other devices when i'm on the road moving up Along the front of the bag, you have another spacious compartment

 You can see my 13 inch macbook pro is getting kind of swallowed up by the compartment, but the sleeve is very well padded. I love that it has the soft fleece lining to help prevent against scratching it's a suspended compartment. So if you place your bag down a little bit harder, your device is going to be well protected and so pulling my laptop out now with the compartment empty. You can get a better look at the inside and so plenty of padding on both sides of the compartment, and it comes up enough to be able to hold a thicker device

The North Face Surge (2021) Review - Solid 31L Tech & Student backpack

 My feeling is that this backpack is not designed for carrying heavy loads or being comfortable when fully packed out. The shoulder straps do not seem well designed, are very rigid, and lack load lifters. The back panel lays flat on the back, which is much less comfortable than a bag with some curvature, also the hip strap was entirely useless for moving weight off of the shoulders.  If you are looking to get this backpack to carry a heavy load, I would look elsewhere towards brands that are more geared for comfort

 (Osprey, Gregory, etc). and would recommend hip belts.  Other than that, will likely use this as my daily carry when I'm done with my trip since I liked it a lot other than these issues.

I did a ton of research on which backpack to bring for carry-on only travel. After testing many bags, I went with TNF surge as it had every feature I needed, great organization, and was the perfect size. Overall, this was an incredible bag, it fit under the seat in front of me, had organization for tech gear and separate laptop and tablet areas. However, there was one fatal flaw that became apparent after only a few days of use: ***it was super uncomfortable***  The shoulder straps cut into my chest and wearing the backpack hurt my back immensely

 I normally keep the face mask and some hand sanitizer in here so this pocket is actually really good for like holding food and stuff. I normally put a lot of my snacks and everything in there and that's not it. I'm kind of a bigger person so it looks kind of normal on me, but if you're a smaller person, maybe consider getting the women's variant because I believe there is a woman's size and it's a little smaller and uses a little less space. but I think it'll be better for the smaller people

They have this like kind of strange weird little pool thing now where you put your finger on it and pull it like this instead of like a normal like zipper that'll have paracord or something on it that you pull from

 But let's talk about some of the negative things to this backpack and the first negative thing on it is it does not fit like clothing very well. So if you're looking for a backpack that you can take to the gym to school to work and then take it out on the weekend to go like visit somewhere or go camping somewhere, this isn't the best backpack for you. or if you want a hiking backpack I don't think this is the best backpack for you either because again you don't really fit much clothes in it. you can't really fold things into it really well

The BEST Backpack for College | The North Face Surge 2021 Review

 One handed operation of the zippers is very poor and this is my biggest gripe about the pack. While traveling it would be helpful to be able to open/close pockets without using both hands. There are ways to manipulate, jerk and pull the zippers using one hand, but since the zippers flex and bend so much, they usually hit a stop. - The Surge II falls over: Touted as a new design feature, this bag will stand on its own ONLY if it is packed out to near full capacity

 The back pad is too long IMO and tips the pack forward, causing it to fall over like any other backpack, unless you have the main compartment stuffed to full capacity, which is a rarity for how I use the pack. - The bottom of the back pad is too long (as mentioned before), so a thin blade of plastic catches my belt and pushes my pants down a bit which is quite annoying. TNF should shorten this pad or have it roll away from the back. Otherwise the pack is very comfortable to wear

 Well done! -Style: This is a great looking backpack IMO. Cons: - Zippers: While the zippers are quality YKK, they lack the structure/stiffness to operate smoothly. I use the NF Surge II as a EDC/Daily commuter bag. This pack is stylish, well laid out, and mostly comfortable. I did have to return/exchange the first pack I purchased because the stitching was coming undone on one of the side pockets. Pros: - Organization: The layout of this pack is excellent! It is super easy to organize and access all of my items

Northface Surge Backpack (It's Crazy!)

 So in there I have my gloves and a hat. That's what I got for the wintertime, so that's this leads into this gray material. The the interior lining this great interior liner is pretty good. It's got a good weight to it so that's a good storage spot

 The grab handle on this back is excellent. Great grab one and even for my big meat mitts. I got really big hands so this grab handle is comfortable. It's wide enough I can get a good grip on it

 I'm really looking forward to getting it on the trails and testing it in that domain. Let's just be upfront and honest about TNF warranty, bar none the best. When you buy the product, you are also buying a guarantee from them and they stand behind that. That's worth the cost to me

 I like that this pack can handle excess weight such as when you have excess food or water in the pack. If I got another pack I would definitely choose one that offers a similar feature.
