This does require the use of the Sonos app. While the app is pretty streamlined for the most part, I feel that they can definitely make it better. To use it, you must have a Sonos account. After setting that up, you can add the Roam as a device and set it up to hook up to your wifi network

When I looked at the box on my doorstep, I thought that Amazon had done another one of those too-big-of-a-box-jobs for a much smaller product. WOW! Was I wrong!! This thing is huge!!! Anyway, exclamation marks aside, I did not read the dimensions for this beast but it's over 2 feet tall (26"!) and at least a foot square for the footprint. Needless to say, the guy who recommended the wagon to carry this portable speaker is spot-on. There is no way you're throwing this on your shoulder and walking down the street

Good Sound, compact design, integrates well with SONOS platform. Battery seems to drain faster than I would have thought, but still acceptable. One draw back to this bundle package is they don't include a secondary block and charger, which would have been nice as price point is north of $200 and the base is a little clunky to grab and go. Do you like mids? Save your money and look for a JBL. Sony Is clueless when it comes to mids. The Sony music center app has an eq that helped a little. If you like metal and have the money get the JBL

Some portable speakers can look a little garish, but the Sonos Roam retains the company's understated design aesthetic.

IMO, it looks less ostentatious and more classy/understated than the JBL, with a more subtle light feature. It looks good and will aesthetically work just about anywhere, from a formal social event to a casual house party with friends. It has better sound quality at low volumes and simply a greater range of lower volume levels. Meaning, if you want softer background music during a dinner or a social event, the Sony will give you a wider range of volume levels to work with, whereas the JBL wants to blast music as loud as possible
