As we touched on above, down wins out in warmth and loft, but synthetic insulation breathes better, dries quicker, and is cheaper. What are the downsides of the Patagonia Nano Puff Vest? The PrimaLoft Gold Eco insulation is pretty darn warm but not to the same degree as down, so this vest isn’t built for frigid conditions (it’s ideal for fall, spring, and as a layering piece). And the current model is slimmer than past versions, so you may want to consider sizing up if you’re on the border or plan on wearing the vest over bulky layers.  I'm doing some climb in with some kids coming up from. Mount Vernon in a bit I'm actually waiting for them now and excited to shoot this video and supposedly 80 degrees by the time lunch time comes around, so it's a good pass you wear this in the morning I set up the climbing equipment in the back that's wearing this in the woods and for the rest of the day when it gets warm, this thing stops right into the chest pocket there and I'm not wearing my climbing harness but if I was I would clip this to my climbing harness. So after my students leave and I'm braking on the climbing site and it's after dark. whatever

 I could just put this back on or whatever so it has a little Clippy thing if you clip it to your harness. I'm not wearing my climbing harness now but comes out real easy. Just like that it's super lightweight. Two things: Don't even wait more than a few ounces so it's really lightweight

*Comfort: Good stretch. The cuffs are nicely designed to form a tight seal while allowing some extra fabric to hang over, which adds to the casual style. 

*Warmth and range: With a midweight long sleeve shirt underneath, I'm comfortable in the high 30s/lower 40s (F), and with a fleece underneath, you can go much lower. What are your experiences with the durability of this jacket? I care for the things I own but I don’t believe I should have to baby the jacket for the price of it.

The problem - I question the durability of the outer shell. I’ve already got abrasions on the pockets and at the bottom of the jacket somehow the edge has worn through and some fill is coming out.

 I also down graded one star for lightweightedness. I have had nano puff's in past and they had more volume.

 So We do have a little bit of elasticity on the arm ports there. They are just going to help to seal in that warm air and keep the drafts out while still allowing you to move very freely. And We do have a draw cord hem as well,, so on the right hand side we have got a little draw cord toggle here. And You can cinch that hem down so the vest won’t ride up on you if you are climbing, if you are backpacking or anything like that, so nice fit enhancements there

 It is the lightest weight and most compressible insulation of-fered by Primaloft, so it keeps you super warm without weighing you down. To Stabilize that insulation. We have got Patagonia’s iconic brick quilting, so the Nano Puff here has really good insulation and it stays throughout the entire piece, so it keeps you nice and toasty warm.  You can attach it to a harness if you are out climbing or to a backpack if you are hiking or you can stow it away if you are backpacking or traveling, so nice compact stuff size for that pock-et there. Some Features that enhance the fit of the jacket include the elastic arm port. So We do have a little bit of elasticity on the arm ports there. They are just going to help to seal in that warm air and keep the drafts out while still allowing you to move very freely
