r/Ultralight - The Purchase Advice Thread - Week of May 03, 2021

 It's still, as you can see by the sprinkles, is still raining. So this might actually be a pretty good indicator of how well it's going to hold up. Now my arms feel pretty cold so I don't know if it's just because the cold material is sitting on them or if it's because it's soaked through but when I unzip it we're going to tell on my gray t-shirt pretty easily what's wet and what's dry. I had just emptied that out before it started raining so we've probably got about a tenth or a quarter inch of rain

 You can just quickly turn it inside out into this pocket and it really folds down to absolutely almost nothing. It fits into a hydration vest very well. A buddy of mine has this exact shell and he will put it right into the back pocket of his running shorts and it folds down into about the size of a softball and you could probably even squeeze it down more if you wanted to. It's pretty small, very easily fits into a small pocket

 It's not really made to be out in the pouring rain but we're going to see how it holds up. I haven't done any treatments to this jacket. We're just going to find out how it does in hard rain. If it does well in hard rain you know it's going to be super good in a light rain

Ultra Running Vlog: Patagonia Houdini shell review

 Hello everybody, welcome back to the channel.

 Because my back has been out, I haven't been able to run this.

 I think this is day 11 or 12 now, so I'm getting kind of frustrated.

 But I wanted to put out a video because I've been looking forward to doing a video on the

 And it's sold as a water resistant jacket and since it's raining today pretty hard,

 I wanted to kind of test it and see how long it would actually protect you or how well

 Now this is sold as a light shell and it retails for right around $100 I think I bought this

 one for give or take and it's not a waterproof jacket but it is a water resistant jacket.

 It's pretty thin and the best thing about it is it has this pocket and it actually folds

 You can just quickly turn it inside out into this pocket and it really folds down to absolutely

 It fits into a hydration vest very well.

 A buddy of mine has this exact shell and he will put it right into the back pocket of

 his running shorts and it folds down into about the size of a softball and you could

 probably even squeeze it down more if you wanted to.

 It's pretty small, very easily fits into a small pocket.

 I love this especially at night when it starts to get a little cooler but the question is

 So I wore an old gray shirt today because I wanted you to really see if it would leak

 Now I know I'm going to get soaked here but let's give it a shot.

 I'm going to start the timer on my phone and we're going to see how long I can stay dry.

 The other nice thing is it has a drawstring in the back so you can tighten that bad boy

 up and you can really frame it down around your face to keep the water off of the back

 This is probably harder than what this jacket is really made for.

 Go in the garage, you're getting soaked.

 It's been raining all day, we had a huge storm last night.

 The ground is super saturated and as you can see it is just raining cats and dogs.

 This jacket is listed as water resistant.

 It's not really made to be out in the pouring rain but we're going to see how it holds

 I haven't done any treatments to this jacket.

 We're just going to find out how it does in hard rain.

 If it does well in hard rain you know it's going to be super good in a light rain.

 If it doesn't do good in a hard rain, well it's not really meant for that but we should

 get kind of an idea of just how well it will stand up.

 I'm going to try to stay out here for at least five minutes and we're just going to see what

 Well the rain is actually starting to lighten up a little bit.

 We're at about, I don't know if you can see that, about just over three minutes now.

 I'm going to stay out here until five minutes for sure.
