 The back panel zipper is a massive #10 YKK: this zipper now bears the full weight of the pack, both when carrying it and when lifting it by the shoulder straps. I had reservations about this design but despite filling the pack with about 20kg (45lbs) of climbing and camera gear, neither the zipper nor any of the other seams gave out so much as a squeak.  I often find the original 35L a bit small for longer crag days when packing more water, clothes, gear and, in my case, a camera, or sometimes two, so I’m really glad the new one comes in a larger 45L capacity. The most common way I use the Cragsmith: clothing duffel. Along with the increase in size, the Cragsmith also gets a few tweaks to the design. The most obvious one is the addition of more substantial padding throughout the pack: the pack now holds its shape, making in much easier to pack and also to find stuff in

 It’s comfortable even heavily loaded, has enough compartments to keep my OCD organized and it works great both at the crag and as a travel bag. It’s heavier than similarly sized packs, but then again it’s not an alpine pack: 1480 grams hardly registers on my back when loaded down with gear. At a retail price of $239 CAD / $199 USD, the Cragsmith 45L is one of the most useful backpacks I have and is very highly recommended.

 Along with the increase in size, the Cragsmith also gets a few tweaks to the design. The semi-rigid sides stay open when the back panel is unzipped, and the pack easily stands up on its own (though as the bottom is not completely flat, it’s easier to balance upright on uneven rocky ground than it is on a flat floor). The new Cragsmith’s side-panels stand up for easy locating of gear

 You know, instead of a clasp, they're lightweight, they're low profile, they're all the things. Same thing on this side, G hook at the top, stretch pocket on the side. If you are a water bottle type person, you are going to find yourself at home here. On the shoulder strap side of things, what's really nice is it came with an integrated water bladder hook

 Be nice to have a way to attach that because when you're wearing a bag that has load carrier hip belt like this does, it really sort of deprives you of places you can put it. You can put it on one of these side pockets, but it's much more ergonomic to have down at your side for quick access, that sort of thing. On the top, there is a really nice pocket here. I can flip that forward

 It's a really asymmetrical waistband. If you have a 29 inch waist, get a large. If you have a larger than 29 inch waist, I don't think you're going to fit this comfortably. That's been my experience

 resources, I think every manufacturer there, I don't want to like mandate it into law,

 This is kind of the start of the things that I don't understand.

 On the right hand side, you have a nice stash pocket.

 Nice material though, it has a little bit of stretch to it, not a ton, but enough.

 Phone maybe if it's of average size, actually I have a phone case here.

 I think there's better spots for your phone.

 This is not an Alpine bag, so I wouldn't expect to have a gear rack loop here.
