-Tuck-away compression straps are good in theory. But as a train and metro commuter, I'll always want my backpack to be as small as possible (whether carrying a light *or* heavy load) to make sure I don't bump into too many other people before I've had a chance to take if off. In the end I always have the compression straps exposed anyway

 On the 2019 version, they removed the higher-up elastic piece. Now there's nothing to hold the tighteners, so I have two floppy straps that look unsightly and blow around in the wind.

 You know it's in the middle of the bag, so you don't have to worry about padding in the front or back of it, because you have a full pocket and frame sheet in the back and all this in the front so plenty safe there, and it also Is floating you can see the end of it there, and this pocket fits a 16 inch macbook, no problem, so a great pocket to add in there. Otherwise, if you are using this for more everyday carry, then you can throw you know, documents or anything like that. Anything you just want to keep a little flatter there and then in the back. We have the laptop compartment here

 You got a nice little key clip on top and then these three elastic pockets. The top of these kind of has this more less stretchy reinforced material here just to give it some more durability. So you got three of those there. We just have some assorted tech accessories charger mouse things like that, and then this pocket actually goes all the way down to the bottom here

 These two little straps you can either use this to hook, carabiners on. If you want anything, quick access right in front of you or if you have a hydration bladder in here, you can stick the end of the nozzle through here and then that'll hold it tight to your bag. So it's not flopping around everywhere on the sides. We have these nice stretchy water bottle pockets

 So this is a pretty deep pocket on top, so plenty room to throw any larger tech items like a laptop charger or anything like that. Moving on to the main compartment uh again, you do need to undo the compression straps to get at this one. Just a nice large compartment here uh we have a packable hoodie and two packing cubes that fit in just fine, no problem there, ton of room in this pocket and even in the back, you have a laptop compartment, there's actually a dedicated laptop compartment in the back. So if you want to opt for a hydration bladder and the laptop you can take your laptop from the designated laptop compartment move it into this one it'll keep it nice and safe

 You'Ve got a really comfy suspended mesh panel here, which is going to let air flow freely behind your back, most packs just get sticky and sweaty, but with that little bit of extra spacing, you won't have that issue here. The shoulder straps are contoured and well padded, and you do get a small webbing hip belt for a little extra stability. The hip belt can be taken off and left at home.  There is a suspended padded laptop sleeve that has ez zip access. If you are traveling and using this pack as your personal item, you can easily remove your laptop at the TSA checkpoint. That suspended design is great for folks who are regularly putting down and picking up the pack, whether it's at work school or the local coffee shop. There will be a good amount of protection for your computer because of that structure

 I'm really attracted to this bag, in particular because it has the same suspension system similar suspension system as this radial 26 made by Osprey and this is one of my favorite bags because of that suspension system. So I was really hoping that this thing would be sort of right in line with that and you should know that I did consider the 2020 version of this radial, but the problem is that this the new radial doesn't have a separate compartment that you can access with a separate zipper for the laptop. So it's the main compartment houses a little pocket for the laptop, but you have to unzip the main compartment to get access to the laptop, something that I consider to be not very convenient. So it really is much better to have a separate laptop compartment with its own zipper, an own separate access point

So anyway, let's take a look around this pack and see what it has to offer and then see if it really does measure up to the kind of pack I really envisioned for a great pack that I use every day. Sorry to say that my knee is bothering me like you can't even believe

 And then there's also a u-shape aluminum piece that goes around here that's hinged that kicks out like the kickstand that they were full. They call it the kickstand that allows it to stand on its own like sell. The materials feel the same level of stoutness that you come to expect to something like Osprey A good mix of this sort of flexible polyester and this more stout nylon here. Note that there is a place to attach a blinky light if you are gonna be using this as a bike commuting bag

 it's able to stand on its own without too much trouble. Okay, so I'm just gonna zip up the main compartment here and we're gonna move one layer back and again. We have a zipper cover to deal with here and when I go one layer back I have a slot dedicated slot for an iPad or for a MacBook Pro This is a 13-inch MacBook Pro and it's hard to see here. but inside of this is another padded panel and you could put a an iPad would have to be probably no bigger than one of the ten and a half inch iPad tablets we're there

 you can put whatever bike in there that's just a small little compartment in the top. then it comes to one of the main compartments now or missile actually so in front of that one. this other one is just a really. this is kind of a handy stuff so we've got little pockets in there

 I'm gonna be using this two years. I Compared a lot of different reviews, a lot of different bags and overall this one came up trumps. I'll just show you whether it's like on so you can strap it up. Push the front go some straps here as well

 They're super comfortable. They've got just the right kind of curvature that s curvatures so that it contours round your shoulders just so you're aware. I'm 510 95 kilos which is about 210 pounds, 42 inch chest fits exactly as I'd expect. They're very, very very wearable packs, which seems a daft thing to say when we're talking about backpacks

 So here we've got the pack. You might find that I might keep having to move the the tags out the way. As I mentioned before, this is a completely brand new pack and it's more the first impressions rather than a fully tested review because I just wanted this to be perfect I Don't want this to be a budget I've tested and sent up to you. This is completely brand new with tags so just to get some dimensions and facts and figures out of the way, the Osprey Nebula is a 34 litre pack so it's it's towards the higher end of an EDC backpack

 What I'll do is I'll leave some affiliate links in the description below. so if you want to check out some of the different colors yourselves, you can do those. They're super comfortable. They've got just the right kind of curvature that s curvatures so that it contours round your shoulders just so you're aware

 So also onto the straps. on either side, there are two elastic horizontal straps so you can stack. You know, put your attached pouch, your sunglasses, a walkie-talkie whatever it is, as well as has adjustable sternum strap with a built in whistle. North Face Surge also has a built-in whistle included

 Again, it only has a single zipper and it has this kind of stupid flap that goes over again. You kind of get used to it, but I just wish this wasn't Now in here you can fit your your laptop and it has this zippered area right here. and it's slightly padded. I I think it could use a little bit more padding but it's just slightly padded

 Also on either side there are two compression straps and there are top compression straps as well which are hidden at the very top right here. On either side, you can actually just pull out. Oops! The compression strap and the buckle is also hidden at the very very top right here. Now the one thing is, um, that I feel like is a slight design flaw is when you do have it buckled and when you open up your zippers, you do have to kind of unbuckle it to open up the zippers all the way For the North Face Surge and I think some of pretty much all of the other North Face backpacks, they've actually put the compression strap a little bit lower so you can actually open and unzip your backpack all the way without undoing the compression strap at the very very bottom

 However, I do wish that it was just a little bit wider and I think that it would have just added even more comfort to it. Now again what I talked about in the beginning. it does have this suspended back panel. um this air mesh

 but to put it on the area where you keep your sunglasses? That seems really odd to me. So and again, from my perspective, I'd rather forego zipper covers all together and instead put on those weather resistant Ykk zippers. I think that's a much better solution than having to deal with the zipper cover all the time. That said, the zipper pulls that Osprey always uses I think are the best in the industry

 So to get into the quick access pocket where you would, uh, keep serving your pair of sunglasses or something like that zipper cover you're gonna have to deal with. And also for your tech compartment, the place where you would put your laptop, your ipad or whatever it is also a zipper cover. Um, so I guess I can understand putting a zipper cover in the area. That's your tech compartment because you might be trying to, um, keep rain from getting onto any of your tech gear

 I would have done something little bit different for my shoulder straps. made them a little wider and used a different kind of foam something that's a little bit more dense. but I know what Oscar is trying to do. They're trying to keep this back light while still providing a lot of functionality

 There's a couple of points that I probably would have changed definitely having the compression straps in a different section or brought them back here just a little bit so that you can at least get into your admin section without undoing the compression straps. but that's a small nitpicky kind of thing for me.  Osprey says this can take a 17 inch laptop and what I put in there is my 15 inch Dell XPS which fits in there no problem, has plenty of space. This laptop compartment is suspended off the bottom and it's padded, but it's not fleece so that's one of the things that the North Face has that the Osprey doesn't is they put a fleece lining. Some people like fleece and some people don't I prefer the fleece, but this will protect my laptop I Have no question now this pocket itself is TSA compliant.
