I bought this light pack for hiking on hot summer summer days  and when I do not need to carry extra layers.   It fits the bill perfectly for this.  The hydration system works very well and there is plenty of extra space for a light jacket, snacks, bear spray etc.   The only thing I don’t like are the skinny/ narrow waist straps; I find them uncomfortable so I just left them un-snapped which was fine

 Biggest difference is the size capacity and the hip belt. This larger size has a wide mesh hip belt to support more weight. The 8 has a minimal webbing hip belt. So if you appreciate more load, support for longer rides stick with the 12, but if you tend to go more minimal and want a lighter weight option check out this Aleta 8

5L of water.  The bag is quiet versitile and can hold a helmet for a motorcycle or bike with ease!  I find myself using the shove-it pocket the most to just shove my items in quickly and to get out with ease.  The magnetic sternum strap is nice because it hold the bite valve right there where you can reach it without issue.  The bag is easy to to use as it boasts some really great internal pockets

 I say all of this because it's a perfect size for a day hike and the quality is solid, but if you need to be carrying more than that with you, you may want to size up!

 I also can fit a heavier/outer jacket securely into the "helmet" attachment on the outside. Without the bladder filled there is more room (obviously). Meh design choices, faulty bladder

 It has a plastic piece on top that slides off. It's a little cumbersome and not as secure as the old screw lid style. I preferred that but we'll see how this one holds up- no leaks so far. Also, the bite valve has a strange magnetic attachment on it

Great Bag, Don't Like the new Resevoir

 If I want to or things a lot of things, I want to be able to access right away rather than having to dig into the big big pouch. It'S perfect for that, and I tend to have a lot of good experiences with that top pouch and it holds it amount of food.  So I bought this as a smaller backpack. I wanted something that I could carry less in and not be tempted to carry more in. I have about a thirty liter, elevating continental backpack and, quite frankly, I tended to carry too much in it. The Osprey scare of eighteen is a nifty little hydration pack for the weekend warrior it's simple, comfortable and includes a hydration reservoir, followed a super, attractive price.
