Would not recommend if a hiking backpack is what you’re looking for. FOR COMMUTING: I like it a lot as a commuter bag. Fits a laptop/notebook and books easily, has a mesh pouch for writing utensils and other accessories, and the zippered front pouch has a key ring and has quite a bit of space for whatever else needs quick access. CONSTRUCTION: As I mentioned, material is thick and sturdy

I use this bag for commuting to work, and have also used it for day hikes and 1-2 day overnight trips to visit family. I don’t really have any complaints. Great quality materials/craftsmanship and it’s backed by Osprey’s warranty.

2. Osprey Aphelia (26L) ($100): This pick is slightly better size-wise & has chest/waist straps that would be great for the day hikes you plan to do, but the laptop compartment (15”) may be too small for you. I also think this size is a bit too large for everyday carry & day hikes.
