 Great, great carving ski from Nordica. This is kind of the middle ski in a three collection series of performance oriented carving skis that aren't quite designed for race skis.

 They're basically taking the proven race performance and reapplying it to more of a consumer oriented, maybe slightly more user friendly and approachable version.

 So pretty much everything you'd expect in a high level carving ski you're going to find in the Spitfire 76 Rb.

 Long camber, plenty of camber in this ski. You're not going to see any early rise or rocker.

 That means you get long effective edge, a lot of stability and a lot of feedback from the ski as well.

 No early taper either. So same thing, you get long effective edge.

 You're going to get a really, really good snow feel and a lot of feedback from the snow because the whole ski is on the snow.

 That also translates to really, really good edge grip, which is something that we expect out of a ski like this.

 Wood core in this ski. There's also two sheets of metal. Again, these are kind of things that we expect to see in high level carving skis.

 In addition to that, Nordica also integrates some carbon fiber into this ski.

 And I'll take a moment to say that this race plate or the binding plate, whatever you want to call it, it's a really, really good plate.

 Sometimes people have a tendency to scoff at system skis.

 I think it has a relatively traditional feel.

 You know, there are some skis in this category from other brands that are using, you know, new innovative materials and stuff like that.

 Pretty straightforward build and can build and design and shape in this ski, which I definitely don't think is a bad thing.

 You know, skiers that value that kind of traditional, powerful, responsive carving performance are going to absolutely love this ski.

 I will say that 76 is a little bit wider than some skis.

 You know, Nordica does offer this in a 72 as well.

 So 76 is giving you the ability to, you know, at least ski some softer snow conditions.

 Certainly not a powder ski, but say you got a little bit choppy snow on the groomers, it'll handle that.

 You know, you get a little bit more waist width and a little bit more surface area in general than like a true race ski or a narrow or dedicated carving ski.

 If you wanted to increase the versatility even more while still staying in this range, Nordica does offer a 80 millimeter version of this ski as well.

 But yeah, in general, it's just a high end carving ski.

 Whole lot of fun if you like linking carving turns and powerful precision skiing.

 Yeah, they're a blast to ski. You can rip around on these things.

  But hold the hard pack and ice like a champ, which was exactly what I was seeking.  Keeping my 98 mm waist Rossi's for those rare fresh snow dump days.

On-piste kings

 And I've had no luck with light moguls on this ski. It likes to be on edge and on groomers. (I'm 5' 9" 170 lbs and an expert). 

 Not to say I can't get it on edge pretty easily- I can, but at 16mm it's not the shortest out there. If I'm hugging a line in search of some snow underfoot (the East!) keeping a really tight line is a bit of work. And I've had no luck with light moguls on this ski. It likes to be on edge and on groomers

 I was in the market for a front side, East Coast carver. I like to go fast and play with different turn shapes. I can rock a really short turn as well as longer GS style turns. This ski (at this length) seems to prefer going at speed and medium to longer turns

The Nordica Santa Ana 98 is the type of ski you could buy, throw in the rooftop box, and not have to worry about having enough space for the rest of your stuff. Instead of having to pack a ski for groomers and a ski for powder days, the Nordica provides you with an all-in-one option. The Santa Ana 98 performed particularly well in the crud, staying stiff enough to punch through anything the mountain threw at it. It also floats well in powder, feels stable at high speeds, can carve a mean arc, and pivots easily around a mogul field.
While we appreciated the reliability of this ski, we didn't experience any wow-factor and didn't feel a lot of rebound or responsiveness under our feet. That said, it took us everywhere we wanted to go at the resort and handled every snow condition, so there's something to be said for dependability. If you don't need something to excite you and want a single ski that can do everything well, the Santa Ana 98 is your match made in heaven.

Nordica’s Santa Ana (the women’s counterpart to the popular unisex Enforcer) is an impressively versatile design and legendary in the all-mountain ski category. Key to the collection’s well-rounded performance is Nordica’s terrain-specific metal construction, which means that each ski utilizes a different amount of metal to tailor stiffness to the intended conditions: The narrowest 84-millimeter option is the most metal-heavy for maximum stability on hard snow, while the widest Santa Ana 110 Free is the softest and most playful in powder. The Santa Ana 98 here sits squarely in the middle, offering a real Goldilocks experience for most riders: This ski is reliable on hardpack, agile in the bumps, maneuverable in powder, and blasts through crud with control and confidence.

There’s no denying that the Nordica Santa Ana 98 does everything well, but it’s not the most playful all-mountain ski—for that, we turn to the Black Crows Atris Birdie below. Further, while it performs reasonably well in the bumps, we found that the Santa Ana lacks the rebound required for quickly pivoting through other types of tight spaces. To be fair, it’ll certainly get the job done (especially if you’re a confident rider who doesn’t mind the added effort to throw it around), but those who prioritize a nimble and agile ride will be better off with an option like Icelantic’s Riveter 95 below.
