Mueller 5-Liter Vegetable Washer vs OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner

I used to hate washing greens for salads. For decades I had the salad spinner that had a top pump mechanism you had to depress multiple times. They worked very efficiently in drying the greens, but I am 5’1” and I usually had to place the salad spinner in the sink so I could get leverage to start pumping away. My daughter, petite like myself, wanted a salad spinner so I started researching for one that did not require pumping from the top and did not cost $60

Another thing that struck me right away was the sturdy strainer. It is really quite strong and you could easily use this for your daily vegetable wash.

This one is FAR SUPERIOR from several standpoints. First, better material - the plastic is a better quality and far more sturdy. Second, the design is a BIG improvement on the competition and makes it extremely easy and convenient to use. It's very capacious

Don’t be cheap and buy a plastic bowl. Spend extra for the real deal! It’s heavy, just note that. You may not like the extra weight, or it may be tiring for you to wash in the sink, or may slide out of your hands. But no more nasty plastic! I dry the greens and then dress and toss the salad right inside the glass bowl and serve

I've used this spinner for lettuce, chopped kale, and basil, before making pesto. The pour-out slots, and the fact that it's designed to be taken apart and cleaned is a big improvement over my last salad spinner, which fell apart when the small plastic piece that held the upper and lower parts of the cover just fell off. After that, there was no way to put them back together securely. The stopping mechanism is another upgrade, and I predict that it will make this salad spinner last longer

There’s no reason except the company’s cheapness that they’re not. The inner bowl isn’t as easy to clean and it will break sooner than the metal outer bowl. Same goes with the top, the spinner mechanism and lid. I believe reviewers who have said it broke with minimal involvement from them

Love our new Mueller salad spinner. We used an OXO for years and came across this one one while on vacation visiting my sister. Loved the pull feature vs the plunger on the OXO to spin the basket. Also liked the fact that you don’t have to remove the lid to drain the water as this has a nice vent in the lid to do so

It didn't spin or dry as effectively for me. I knocked off a star due to that, but it's absolutely a 5⭐️ for someone who is using this for a multiple people or larger amounts. I ended up returning this, and switching it out for the OXO smaller salad spinner which is perfect for my needs.

This pull handle will probably last longer since it has a pull mechanism that does not have a visible cord or no cord (not sure what the internals are). It is even easier to get it spinning too. The other big selling point is the drain slots on top so I don’t have to remove the lid to empty. Easier to use with less time to dry my greens may mean I will eat more salads

The product does what it's supposed to do, but after about 10 trips through the dishwasher the plastic ball warped and bent out of shape (product says dishwasher safe). Amazingly, as long as you squeeze the top on it still does an effective job, but I was disappointed in the plastic bowl. I do have a very good brand new dishwasher, too, so I know it's not a faulty appliance.

It's a clever design and vastly superior to pull string models. My only suggestion is that the basket could be a bit bigger. This limits how much uncut lettuce can be spun at a time.

I had a smaller one for quite a few years and it broke. Purchased this one without reading and it is way too big for my family. You need to make sure the basket is level before putting on the lid, it tends to tilt.
