The spine of the blade is smooth and not suitable for throwing sparks from a ferro rod. With considerable effort I was occasionally able to get one or two sparks. Now the knife. I bought this for self defense, if ever needed it'll do the job intended. It doesn't come very sharp and in my opinion doesn't sharpen very well. Handle feels nice in the hand for intended purpose

The only negative is that the sheath is a hard plastic. It does the job, but does not match the quality of the knife. However, for this price the knife alone is a great value.

The blade is dull so get yourself a good sharpening stone to hone the blade. For the price, it's a good knife but the sheath is still very important.
