Logitech K480 Bluetooth Multi-Device Keyboard Review

ConclusionThe K480 works extremely well, and it's useful and fun to switch between devices so quickly and easily. I thoroughly enjoyed typing this review using the K480 with an iPad Air and effortlessly switching to my Nexus 5 to reply to texts and Hangouts. It's not an essential piece of hardware, but for $49.99, it adds convenience to your digital life

Positive

Not so worthy successor

The very first impression is positive, it has a good overall feel to it. l it looks good (important to me in my home studio where the look is a big thing). It feels solid, no plasticky and the keys seem to be well positioned and ergonomic.

Design

Great keyboard, bad design

I've caught or readjusted it countless times. However, my tablet has also fallen to the hard floor or table multiple times because of this. This is a big design flaw because tablets can be very pricey.

WARNING for Mechanical keyboard users: MX Keys is annoyingly LOW, otherwise a great keyboard.

It's basically free. - Packaging minimal yet very classy, well done. - Board looks and feels great, has a sort of subdued yet elite appearance, looks great in office or home setting. If you aren't one of those RGB nerds you will love it

Weight

Clunky and Plastic-y, but Cheap and Usable

This means that for further away keys you have to reach for such as backspace you'll often encounter unexpected resistance, interrupting the flow of your typing. Moreover, the weight of each key is very much uneven with various keys being much more resistant to being pushed down than others. This lack of evenness doesn't inspire much confidence in the quality of the product in general, even if my confidence in it wasn't particularly high to begin with due to the low price. At the end of the day though, for $30, you can't demand too much

Worth Every Dollar

PERFECT. If the backlight stayed on then everybody would be complaining that the battery doesn't last long enough. Logitech had this in mind when building this keyboard. Everybody is also complaining about the weight of the keyboard saying its too heavy, it is in fact heavier than the standard desktop keyboard, but that's good, because if its bumped it won't move or if it is placed on a slanted surface then the weight of the keyboard and the rubber feet will prevent the keyboard from sliding off of it's surface

Ergonomics

Updated: You're really going to like the keyboard

This is another design flaw. I use a UAG case which has a built in tilting feature so it will not cause any problems. To solve the above mentioned problems I have propped the keyboard temporarily with a few posted notes pads and I'm using the built in tilt feature of my case to make it work a bit more comfortable. I found that the weight of the keyboard is actually benificial

Impressive but I narrowly prefer Apple's own keyboard for use with my MacBook Pro

The Apple is just a little bit bette, just a little bit easier to type on. There is a little more resistance with the Logitech. My fingers glide across the keys of the Apple keyboard as I type. With the Logitech, I find myself having to back up because I didn't press down hard enough and therefore missed a character

Build Quality

Faulty product but other issues too

I use other logitech products which last much longer under much heavier use. Pros: - Solid construction. - Keyboard types nicely. I thought the key presses would be worse or more difficult because they look kind of odd in the photos but it's easy and comfortable to type on

Software

Good hold on tablet while typing

I did not like how it pairs with a Fire HD 10 plus tablet. It took 2 people to do it. Kept timing out before I could get the code in to pair it. Finally, after some research I had a friend help

I am a software engineer and i type alot and care about my function keys. The function keys bar is very difficult to use because there is no space between button groups (most keyboards have space between F4 and F5 and F8 and F9). The function keys are clearly intended to be used as media keys. This keyboard is not for coders and not for gamers

Layout

Garish, Loud and Large but Pwns Its Purpose

Additionally, my OnePlus One fits while wearing its Diztronic Ultra TPU case, as does the Galaxy S4 in a UAG case that I gave to my fiancee. The cases I've tried have fit so well that I'm beginning to wonder whether other reviewers have been trying to cram Otterbox Defenders into this otherwise capacious slot. Word to the wizened: If the slot were any larger, our kit would probably fall out. If you're looking for the specific compatibility of a keyboard designed for your device (iOS users, I'm gaping at you) then prepare to be mildly disappointed -- until you parse the differences in the layout

What Keyboard Should I Use?

* I am used to low profile keyboards so choc switches would be my preferred choice to reduce the travel distance. * Layout I was aiming for was Lily58 or Sofle but kind of want a stronger column stagger and at least a 3 button thumb cluster.

Price Point

Almost a Perfect Keyboard

Overall, for the price it's well worth the buy as it saves a ton of money, especially if you have multiple devices. Outside of the few cons I mentioned, I definitely recommend this product.

Deceptively Solid and Weighty

This is clearly a case of 'you get what you pay for' where spending a little extra is totally worth it.
