I'm 6'4" and deep in dad bod territory. Most backpacks are not proportional to my torso. I've used a messenger bag for work for some time, but am returning to school this fall and would prefer to go back to backpacking around campus.

Some of the designs from Topo Designs have caught my eye, even if they are marketed as travel bags rather than for daily use (such as [this](https://topodesigns.com/products/convertible-travel-bag-laptop-backpack-30l?variant=40136110899253)). I also need something that can hold a 15 inch laptop.

Suggestions for other brands or models that suit us bigger-bodied folk are appreciated. Or if you have experience with one of these travel bags from Topo. Thanks!

 I have stuff in these side pockets and therefore side pocket That one on that right side, on the left side. You know that side pocket stuff in there. There you go, and uh, it's been a great bag. Swift Gear has made a durable, breathable bag

 I just have uh and a case that I I keep an extra brick to charge my phone and I have some ear parts in there and that's what stays in there and in here. I have a lot of little stuff that I carry every day. It packs a lot of stuff. A lot of stuff goes in in here

 I also in this in this middle part I have a work computer, a work laptop that I use and that I carry for work, and uh so I carry it back and forth every day and that goes in that middle section like that. And then I have a coffee mug and so half a million I put in here put into the single section back here in the back here if it's real nice. I also usually cook my lunch everything kind of zipped up. It is in good condition, the zippers aren't frayed, they are pulled and I've had this five months and it has worked very well for me

 The zippers are still in good condition, moving a little fast, and in good condition. The arm straps are still very tight. see that's very tight. Still working very well for me here and here it's still attached very well on the sides

SwissGear 1900 Scansmart TSA Laptop Backpack Review

Unfortunately my old Swiss Gear backpack started unraveling and one zipper broke so it was time to get a new one. Wow, they have changed. I really liked how my old one had all kinds of holders that zipped open inside the main front compartment. Now they are just sewed openings and not as plentiful

Not as good as my old backpack

Okay, so I'm going to review this backpack. I've seen a lot of people review it and they say that you know a lot of times it's men and they say hey, I can pack in this for an overnight trip. I'm a girl so I wanted to give a fair review. Let's look at the outside compartments first

 you can put it in this section here and then when you go through security you can just unwrap it like so and screen it. I will tell you as a female traveling overnight trips, I'm able to roll up a business jacket and a dress and a pair of work shoes and stuff them in here, my makeup and what have you and I have traveled a number of times just in this backpack, having my laptop with me, stuffing all of my i'll give presentations so I'll have a professional dress and uh, sweater and shoes in here and then something to sleep in. Of course I'm wearing whatever I'm wearing while I'm at the airport and I just want to show the back of it. It's well cushioned and I can tell you you know as an average build female I can walk through the airport with this and I don't have to check any baggage, no wheels, You have to have it on your back but you don't have to check any bags and you throw it right in the overhead compartment and when you get off the plane you're ready to go

 I'll put stuff in here that I need to access quickly for travel. Usually in here I'll put my chargers and whatnot in here. Large compartment. There's a mesh compartment here and as you can see I can put my mouse in here

 if you're going through the airport. I have just opened it up. I'll show you and it goes through security pretty easily. If you're going through the airport, this unzips all the way down the sides and if you're going through the security screening at the airport, you can just open it up

  I can't really recommend this particular pack, but I'm tempted to try a different one from the same brand.

High-quality, but over-specialized

 I was looking for a new bag with features that would make it more comfy to carry my computer and essentials like plugs / battery packs / umbrella on rainy days / pens / a pad / my lunch box / and one to two water bottles. I drink protein for breakfast and in the summer would like to carry water as well. My old bag only held one bottle and when I stuck my lunchbox in the bag, it made it jet out backward. It felt heavy and was not liked by fellow subway riders

Very good bag but has a lack of balance.

 I can't believe I actual feel sick and betrayed over a backpack but sue me. The last one was just that great and I can't buy another for $200. Hell with how I feel, I could probably do $250.  Overall, I would not recommend this to anyone

 I've only had this a day, but the straps are uncomfortable, half of the zipper is missing for one pocket, the back itself is uncomfortable and somehow they made the bag look like there was coffee spilled on it while it was still in the plastic bag. Its not a great feeling when a 14 yr old laughs at it and says I'm not trading.  I was personally willing to spend $200, but wanted a SwissGear due to how awesome the previous backpack was. Maybe they had a manufacturing problem a few years back or they don't like making products that last a long time

To be clear: this is my dedicated commuter bag and it couldn't even survive three months of my 12-minute commute to my job. Incredibly disappointing considering my past positive experiences with Swiss.  The good parts: the layout was very well devised

  The material that the pack is made of is not nearly as thick as my old Swiss bag; it is noticeably flimsier. The zippers also appear to be less rugged. Not durable

 My old SwissGear was much better in that area, it had a larger number of positive closure pockets.

 I still haven't found a bag that is GREAT for a large laptop. Today's laptops are thin, which makes the corners susceptible to damage. But this bag, as with all other bags I have found, just barely fits the 17" laptop and I feel the corners are not well protected at all as there isn't much padding there. The laptop also pushes out against the zipper pretty hard if I'm not real careful about tucking the laptop into the pocket, it's that tight, so I'm not sure how long it will last without blowing out
