 One thing is that you can track your humidity over time, with a week of history. It's kind of interesting to see that doing a ton of cooking (especially with gas) raised the humidity even a short distance to the bedroom. An additional app change is that they added "Smart Scenes". This functionality can work as a kind of workaround for the wide humidity range offered in "Auto" mode

 I appreciate the opening on the water tank, which does in fact let me fit my hand inside. However, there are fins of plastic on the inside that are hard to clean around. There's also a tube that runs down the inside of the tank with tight clearance between the tube and the side wall. I squeeze a sponge in between there and hope I get it good enough

 My unit consistently reads much higher than two other humidity sensors I have. For example right now it reads 65% when the other sensors report 50% and 51% (in two connected rooms). Sometimes it's closer to being only 10% off.  Second, the hysteresis (amount of overshoot/undershoot from your selected humidity) is +/- 3%

 There's also a tube that runs down the inside of the tank with tight clearance between the tube and the side wall. I squeeze a sponge in between there and hope I get it good enough. The outside of the tank has a piece towards the bottom that detaches, but it's also got a lot of small spaces that are harder to get to. The base isn't so bad to clean, although it's easy to splash water into the humidity sensor while you're at it

 Mild annoyance. Can be avoided by being mindful of it, which I suppose is a trait I lack in this particular case.  I bought these humidifiers on sale, and they have held up very well. I don't think I will purchase again in the future, though, as I'm sick of cleaning the dang things

 They run for about 16ish hours on high and can sufficiently humidify a large room.  It's important to remember that this unit doesn't have a filter, so it grows mold and gets slimy VERY quickly. I recommend rinsing out the reservoir AND the base once a day with hot water and clean with diluted bleach spray at least once a week. It comes with a handy brush to get into the little nooks

 Don't make the same mistake I did and neglect cleaning it regularly - you WILL get ill. Also don't let water sit in it when it's not in use.  Also worth noting - It doesn't leak but sometimes, depending on the air circulation in the room, some of the mist will float down onto the surface I have the humidifier sitting on. I keep the humidifier on a tray and lay the tray on a small towel to prevent my dresser from being damaged from moisture

  I bought these humidifiers on sale, and they have held up very well. I don't think I will purchase again in the future, though, as I'm sick of cleaning the dang things. They really do get slimy fast. So next time I'll opt for one that has a filter

2 years of use - not too bad

 I filled the water tank and placed it to work on the Low mist setting ONLY. The tank was empty after exactly 27 hours. Yes, it worked great, very quiet, and efficient for 27 nonstop hours! So, 40? Not in this world, no matter what you do to it. Of course, it will work even less on the Medium and the High settings, but I went with the Low only

 Why do I say this? Because I don't see the humidity levels drop or spike when I'm not using or using the unit. I have a pretty fast reacting hygrometer which detects the changes in 30 minutes max.  Does it clean air? For sure it does, simply because the water in the tub gets dirty. But how big of a radius does it really affect? I'm not sure, I have no proof either way

So if you're doing the same job as every other guy how is that the advantage for you that you decide to market yourself with?  OK how, compared to other humidifiers I guess? Still, how? It takes same amount of work adding water daily and cleaning if not more. My warm mist humidifier I'd add water daily and clean it once a season to get rid of calcium deposit. Venta takes adding water daily, cleaning every couple of weeks, and at least once a season I disassemble it to clean the fan housing. And the basic cleaning is not that quick either

 You can't get the dirt off. You can either get your toothbrush and dish detergent out every other week and clean the discs (or more precisely the parts you can reach for one hour or you can shell out 13$ for Venta's cleaning agent. Both options are terrible. To Venta's credit I need to emphasize that cleaning is a big problem with every humidifier out there

 Most humidifiers I have seennever get cleaned and they basically are germ distribution devices. At least the Venta you can get clean, either with your elbow grease or by throwing 13$ at the problem every two weeks. Paying 400$ for this humidifier is completely overpriced and even my 300$ black Friday deal seems way over the top for what you get. Last but not least, if you are ready to spend 400$ for this humidifier, spend another 50$ for the trolley

 But there is a big catch with this humidifier (like with any humidifier): cleaning it is a nightmare. Yes you can pop the bottom and top case into the dish washer (rinse cycle only) and it washes off the dust. But the discs is what get super dirty with a yellowish slimy substance. And putting the discs in the dish washer has zero effect

I hemmed and hawed for a year before buying. Wish there was a return option with Amazon for something being a disappointment. I bought this for our bedroom to help fight winter dry air. We have hot water baseboard heat (not forced air) but the air is still really dry at night

 My guess would be the fan bearings, so I'm just waiting for complete failure to happen here. As noted by someone else, any repairs are almost equivalent to just buying a new wick humidifier.  tl; dr - not worth the extra cost, you are better off with a wick humidifier.

 If I look back at all those filters I had to buy for the Vicks system it makes no sense. I don't know why you don't see this at Wal-Mart except for the fact Wal-Mart would not make any money on you coming back to buy those filters all the time. I lived in Vegas for 10 years and I wish I had found this sooner. Well worth the money, and yes, you say who would spend that kind of money, but you save on the filters

I have tried all the other humidifiers from all the other kinds you can get at Wal-Mart and Sears. This is far the best = no filters to change , runs quiet, clean the air, humidifies the air. If I look back at all those filters I had to buy for the Vicks system it makes no sense. I don't know why you don't see this at Wal-Mart except for the fact Wal-Mart would not make any money on you coming back to buy those filters all the time

 There are three speeds, the high speed always made a bit of noise, I ran it on speed one during the night because it WAS almost silent. Now the hum makes it almost impossible to use. Very frustrated, a German made unit, that I paid a premium for, I expected would last 5-8 years. Is that unreasonable? Going to contact Venta

 What I can say, however, is that maintenance is significantly less than other humidifiers (no filters to replace), it is easy to clean, and there is no white dust or moisture near the machine..  People who criticize how often they have to fill the humidifier don't seem to understand the concept -- the whole idea of a humidifier is to transfer water to the air. An empty tank means that it is working

I use this on the wood floor of my 1700 square feet New York apartment at the highest setting. It puts three gallons of water into the air every 24 hours when the humidify is lowest and is very quiet. What more can you ask of a humidifier? To show my satisfaction, I just gave one to my son.  I have owned this machine for three months, so I can't attest to how long it will last

 At 11 cents a kilowatt hour, the L45 would only cost $32.21 to run all winter. That is a small price to pay for eliminating bloody noses and congestion.  One more point
