MFA Theme WAYWT Challenge: Americana - Submissions!

No shame in that game. Levi’s knows what they’re doing. I still have my first pair of 501’s from 19 years ago.

 So, to see for myself, I got my hands on a couple pairs of off-the-rack 501s to explore how the most iconic jean stands up in the 21st century. 

 On top was a pair of perfectly worn and faded vintage Levi’s 501s. I took them home, washed them and tried them on — a perfect fit, noticeably better than any jeans I owned. It was meant to be. Since then, I’ve picked up a few other pairs of vintage 501s, all unique in their aging, but familiar in their fit

 Some reviewers found that that listed waist size didn’t correspond to their actual size — my advice: just buy from a site that has a strong return policy. That aside, these are workhorse jeans. Don’t get them if you want some selvedge to show off or if you’re looking for denim with an intricate origin story. 

 You can also choose between a tapered silhouette and a skinny fit. All the new iterations aside, I’ve been most curious how the stock 501, the non-stretch Original Fit jean, fares in the modern marketplace saturated with denim styles. So, to see for myself, I got my hands on a couple pairs of off-the-rack 501s to explore how the most iconic jean stands up in the 21st century.

The Signature Gold Label Modern Skinny is a flattering, comfortable pair of high-waisted jeans with a reasonable price tag. The material composition of these flattering pants is 78% cotton, 20% polyester, and 2% elastane, which makes for a stretchy, comfortable fit. We like the high waist and found that they were comfortable enough to wear all day. The material is also durable and substantial enough to look professional and we felt great rocking these pants on a casual Friday at the office. 
Though they are comfortable by skinny jean standards, these are not the pants we reach for when heading out to do chores in the yard. They are still tight-fitting and do not provide the best mobility of the bunch. We also had some problems with durability on the seams and the knees during our sandpaper test, which doesn't bode well for their long-term durability.

Hasn't faded too much or lost elasticity from washing either, but it's only been one month plus (from December 2018). Highly recommended!  Well, and my phone, because the back pockets are there and decent. I have a pretty big phone and it doesn't fall out when I get in and out of my car, or walk around. They're ok. I don't think I'd buy more colors, but I also don't feel the need to return them

Doesn't go all bag city, either. I've had jeans that just stretched out so badly that they were falling off within hours of putting them on. So the description says it "won't bag out and keeps it's shape all day." Welllllll

 They're very much my hair up, no make up, big t-shirt, cart the kids around, and do errands/chores kind of jeans. Shrug.

Okay so I hate reviews for clothes where people do not give specs on body type so let me start with that. I am 5'5, 190ish lbs. 40 inch bust, 44 hips slimmest part of waist is 34, but I had two babies in the last 3 years and have mom belly so it is 37ish at largest spot. Thick thighs also

 The Mascara pair is a beautiful dark color with no fading/bleaching. I'll be returning both of the Immaculate pairs because the 4 was too big and the 2 is not what I ordered.  The rest of my review is for the Masacara jeans in size 4.  I liked that this particular pair came as expected and fits as expected

 Of the three pairs I ordered, this is the only one I'm keeping.  The sizing seems to be inconsistent. I don't know if the coloring is inconsistent as well or if the shipper sent the wrong pair hoping I wouldn't notice. In fact, I might not have noticed if I didn't order the same exact color in two sizes, so I'm not sure if it was truly a mistake or someone being sneaky

  The rest of my review is for the Masacara jeans in size 4.  I liked that this particular pair came as expected and fits as expected. I typically wear a 4 in jeans and the 4 in this color fit perfectly. There is a nice stretch to the material and the waist actually fits nicely, which is sometimes a problem because my waist is small for my hip size

Sizing and coloring is inconsistent.

  The only problem with them, and the only reason this isn’t a 5 star review, is that the pockets are ridiculously shallow. Come on, Levis. She actually bought a new iPhone 6s right after she got these, and the pocket was so shallow that her phone caught the edge of a table as she sat down, and her phone flipped out of her pocket and smashed face down on concrete. This ruined a brand-new phone for her

 She now has another new iPhone and it doesn’t begin to fit in the pocket.  Women need pockets that WORK. Come on. Give them realistic pockets

 These are thin, stretchy, and baggy. My old pair were a little tight, so I bought these in the same size (8) I thought about going a size up but they didn't have a 9. Glad they didn't These jeans are weirdly baggy and long in the crotch and loose in the stomach area. So much so that the fabric folds over if your jeans shift even slightly down When you sit down, the back and front both poof out giving you a gap in the font and back The legs are not skinny jeans, they fit more like a straight leg jean And to top it all off they're really thin, like most jean companies they've seemed to changed their jeans from thick, sturdy demin, to thin, ultra stretchy jean legging like material

They fit nicely and are super soft. They are not "long", they are the appropriate length to cover my ankles and a bit on the feet

 I have a 33" inseam and buy long when I can. My problem is with the styling. The back pockets are close set, a bit low, and angle with the inside corner much lower than the outer corner. Gave me squishy looking post pregnancy butt

 Other than the minor leg problem with one color, both pairs were a perfect size for me, look really nice, and feel great. I would buy more.  Update: I've had these almost 2 years and they don't hold their shape very well any more. If you have to sit for any length of time the knee gets stretched out and the material gets baggy everywhere

Fits well and comfortable but don't hold up

this pants are nice however this ones have very tight ankle area think they will not fit once i wash them this is why this ones are less than some others the rip ones are fitting better this are not correct size am usually a 12 this are very tight think this is wrong sizing

 So I wanted a pair of “normal” jeans. I was super hesitant to order a size 6, but I’m so glad I did. With two littles and all the bending and squatting I did not want anything uncomfortably tight. These jeans definitely have a lot of stretch in them if I pull out the waistband, but still fit nicely
