 this/\s/machine does have Pid, so unlike its competitors/\s/ you're always going to stay within one/\s/degree of optimal brewing temperature/\s/ The pid on this machine is a little/\s/customizable You have a low medium high/\s/ setting. On the older model of the Mara, you/\s/were able to get into the specific degrees/\s/ but they have simplified it for folks and just/\s/doing the low medium high, you can access that just underneath here. So if you're in the circle/\s/and you're pressed in the middle, that's your low/\s/ To the left is going to be medium and/\s/then to the right is going to be high/\s/ Okay, so this does have a 58 millimeter portafilter/\s/it is very nice and it has a good weight to it/\s/ as well. This portafilter does lay flat, so/\s/when you're trying to dose out your coffee/\s/ and tamp, you're not also trying to level your/\s/portafilter which is is helpful

 It's all going/\s/to be based on how well you tamp your espresso/\s/ as well as your grind size and things like that/\s/one of the things I like about this machine is/\s/ It's not overly sensitive to grind size as you'll/\s/notice here I'm just using the virtuoso plus/\s/ from Barraza with this machine. Whenever I/\s/demo this machine, this is the grinder that I/\s/ choose to use. It's very accessible to customers/\s/and it's very easy to use. It's not like some other/\s/ espresso grinders where you do/\s/get into the micro adjustments/\s/ So one of the reasons I consider this an entry/\s/level is it's not sensitive to grind size

Never went back. Got a Eureka Mignon Manuale which will be replaced by a DF64 soon and Lelit Mara X as my current setup. The latter was a game changer. Oh, and never buy Nespresso

Inspired by a lot of recent posts about beans and a few about techniques, I was surprised that people didn’t already have roasters in mind, some didn’t have a favourite coffee shop they could get ideas from, and some didn’t even have a favourite drink!

I had naively thought I was the common case - I got into it because I already loved espresso, spent a fair amount of time finding new good places etc but eventually compiled a ludicrous spreadsheet about the break even point and upgraded with lockdowns when I worried my access to very good espresso might be cut off - but it seems not.

So I ask you, r/espresso, how did you get into this expensive time consuming and hyperactivity inducing hobby?  Did you have a business case?  Moved to the sticks and so had to get high on your own supply?  Thought you could do better?  Needed to make tiramisu on the regular?  Dietary requirements? What got you into home espresso?

 If you absolutely want to have an HX, then consider Lelit Mara X, which is the only HX that has its PID temperature sensor in the brew group where it belongs, not in the steam boiler.

No need to deal with cooling flushes, group thermometers, Dragons vs. Mixers vs. Agnostics, etc. Check out Lelit Elizabeth, Breville Dual Boiler, Profitec Pro 300, Rancilio Silvia Pro, or ACS Minima

New to espresso, what grinder should I get?

It is more trouble than it’s worth compared to a double boiler. The temperature instability will require cooling flushes. I would also avoid anything with an E61 head as that takes 20 minutes to warm up and has significantly worse temp stability than a saturated group since it is constantly losing/gaining heat with a large thermal mass. The Lelit Victoria, Lelit Anna PID, Silvia with PID, ECM Casa V, and gaggia with PID are probably your best bets for consistent shots until you go into Lelit MaraX/Elizabeth territory

I finally scored a Niche, help me choose a machine? Looking at Gaggia classic, Lelit Mara X, ECM V Slim, etc

I have the Lelit Mara X and I love it. The choice of steam priority mode vs brew priority mode, the steam boost after pulling a shot, and the brew temperature adjustment put it in a class by itself among HX machines.

So this is my final setup I’ve decided on, anybody run this same setup? Anything you think I should change?

 No, usually, what i find is you get a thick black band of black coffee just below the foam at the top, but this one it seems to be quite a big band of erm like where the coffee is mixed with the milk and then a band of Just milk at the bottom, so it does mix differently, but it does create. I think a nice tasting coffee we'll make a latte macchiato, and i will show you that one just about getting into that glass isn't it. I could possibly have shoved it over a little bit further, but the shelf is being blocked here, it's not as far over as it should go. Really, but again i could have possibly put a bit more milk in again

 59.7, it's just just about hot enough to drink. It could be being maybe a little bit hotter, but and also we have already poured a shot of espresso, which has probably made the coffee a little bit hotter as well out of all the lattissimas that we've had um over the you know past few months. An attractive, easy-to-use machine. We really like it

 It has a very strong watt motor motor, a heater inside of it. 1400 watts, which means it can reach its temperature very quickly, uh 25 seconds. It takes to heat up your entire espresso, making water. It has a really strong, high performance pump inside 19 bars, which, if you not to confuse you with terminology but even much more expensive, espresso machines have a 19 bar pump on it

 I think you'd be better off with a straight-up espresso maker and a different milk solution. I took the temperature of the milk right out of the spout and it topped out at about 125 fahrenheit. Most baristas would tell you the ideal. Milk temperature is between 155 and 165 fahrenheit

 You can't adjust the brew temperature or the water temperature. It comes from the factory set to about 83 to 86 degrees, or so, according to nespresso now nespresso says it's not supposed to be a hot super hot beverage. Anyway, they aim to make it come out of the machine at a hot but drinkable temperature. So you can have your espresso right away, and the company recommends that if it's not hot enough for you, you can preheat your cup

 The kit i got also included a sample pack of nespresso capsules, which was a nice way to try out some different coffees when it comes to the specs. Let'S take a look at what's involved in brewing your coffee, making an espresso is as simple as turning the machine on and waiting for it to heat up, which takes about 20 seconds, i'm impressed with how fast this is and if you're heating up milk for your Morning, latte that takes about another 15 seconds and we'll get to the milk based drinks in just a sec so pop in the capsule, close the lid and then choose your size. My single shot, brews up in about 15 seconds and a double takes only about 25

 Here nespresso does have a pod recycling program and they will even pay the shipping pods when it comes to their cost, for you cost about 70 cents to a dollar per pod, which i find pretty reasonable, especially given coffee shop prices when it comes to the overall Coffees and their tastes, i think, there's a lot to enjoy. I find the coffees packaged in their little cups to be fresh and with a huge number of different roasts tastes, flavors and options you're, probably going to find something. You love bottom line here. For me, the coffee is really good
