Best Utility Knife of 2022 - GearLab

I like most Kobalt brand tools, but this isn’t one of them. It’s VERY difficult to open & close, it’s very stiff is why it’s hard to open, even after oiling it. It locks open for safety & has a push down lock release on the spine (opposite side of the sharp side of blade) that’s so hard to push down I couldn’t do it without putting the lock on something hard & pushing it down till it unlocked, then I could close it. This isn’t recommended because it’s not safe

It was new, so I expected it to be somewhat stiff, but it was still to rigid to use safely, even after oiling

Hard to use

 Additionally, with the locking mechanism it securely locks open (wish it would lock closed too, but there is some spring resistance) and when locked pen I have no fear that it will flip shut and injure me.  I do wish the locking mechanism wasn't this style, which resembles pocket knives / hunting knives etc. You have to squeeze it to flip it shut. But it's a common design, so you should know how to do it safely

The curved handle gets caught on everything when bending down. Always gets hooked on my keys or pants if im kneeling down. And the tip is slightly bent after very minimal prying. Not very happy with it

Knife is sharp and holds an edge. Small and horizontal belt carry is nice. However the bolt that holds the clip on came loose and now I can’t use the belt clip.

  This blade is a bargain for less than $25. But if you want belt carry , buy the Blade-Tech brand clip and get it right

 I like the thick belly design of the small blade and when carrying , you WILL NOT lose this knife as the provided locking mechanism is super effective. The 360 degree rotational belt clip is kind of cheesy and harkens back to old belt carried cell phone clips that broke all the time.
