 Now, as far as the feel is concerned, it's tray mount and stiff, full stop. Onto the sound. So sound-wise, the North Pole switches with the silicone damper really didn't do it for me. It was just a little bit too muted

 You can pick these up in either tactile or linear at PNC Keys, link below. Yeah, so the sound of the board is obviously very dependent on the switches you decide to install in here. For me, it sounded best without the silicone damper, but it did add some hollowness. I'll test this out with some polyfill in a later build and see if it's the right mix

 Since these switches are already deep, the silicone damper took away a lot. Take a listen. So I decided to try it without the silicone damper to see if the board will come to life a bit. And here's what we ended up with

 This is a 75% ABS plastic tray mount keyboard that comes in a few different configurations. The price is pretty shocking, starting at $54 for the bare bones kit. Yeah, $54. You can also pick it up in bare bones with a knob for $64, fully assembled without a knob for $74, and a fully assembled with knob for $84

 I guess I don't know now Let's go ahead and open this whole thing up and see what we are working with So after taking off the what the for eight screws on the back, by the way There are so many screws for this thing so many kind of a bummer I'm not gonna lie. There's a lot of unscrewing but they do include the necessary tools to do so So I do like that now You do see that you pull it off and it does have the PCB with some foam in between Not gonna be removing that or anything and then you see the PCB PCB pretty nice. Nothing too fancy It's just a PCB now We get a look at how it's all mounted together and it is a tray mounted keyboard I do see this dampener, which I do like really thick high quality looking feeling and everything It's it's nice. It does help with the stock sound test and everything else Now another thing to note is you see all the little things poking up so that you can put the PCB in and screw it And everything we're gonna be doing stuff with those in a minute, but I just letting you know that those are there now I'm gonna go ahead and give you a stock sound test because I would like for me to move on to the mod So, what do you think? I like the little stock sound test

 It's decent I mean, it's a good keyboard first. I mean for the money you're paying I mean, you are gonna have to buy your own keycaps and switches, but nonetheless I mean, it's it's a good board these stabs could use a little bit of tuning but nothing you can do on your own I'll have links in the description for like kinetic labs and where I get all my stuff and cry talks to a 5 grade 0 and All that stuff by the way, did you see those keycaps? These these are pretty nice man Pretty good now for the mods we there's not a lot to do here I'm gonna work with the stabs which I do I you lubed in with cry talks to a 5 grade 0 The stock lube they use was just kind of like they just put it on there There wasn't any more lubing done than that So like it was good with what I did and they do a hundred percent sound so much better Would I buy some more stabs probably I just being honest They're not my favorite, but they do sound way better than what they did So after lubing these stabilizers, I had an idea now something that is kind of good Like I mentioned at the beginning of the video is that I waited on this video a little bit not on purpose It's just I didn't I needed to buy it and wait for shipping and all that I got to see a lot of the other youtubers Like do their own kind of mods and stuff like that now one that's stuck in my head the most because this man Is way smarter than me is the youtuber keyboard.  Like I've already said and Let's go ahead and hear that sound test I See hey I think it turned out pretty good compared to the stock in like the stock one this one I think it's pretty good. Now do I think this thing is worth it? of course this you know, I mean I've done so many more more expensive boards in this and I've said those are and this one is Same level as them just cheaper now If you want aluminum case then yeah That might be a little bit of a bummer if you want something that's a little bit more thicker Right because I mean for me since I have handled a lot of keyboards This one is by far the thinnest one I've ever touched that doesn't mean anything That doesn't like it still looks really good on your desk. And it I mean it works like a keyboard should it's cheaper Keycron is a good company. And I mean Yeah, man, it's a nice board especially for that money do that $64 price tag is pretty nice

The Best BUDGET Custom Keyboard Kit??  Keychron V1 Review/Build

Disappointing is an understatement

 At launch, this version went for $74, including the Keychron OSA PBT keycaps, as well as the Keychron K Pro switches. Note, these are Keychron's own switches, and they are not related to Gateron Pro switches that you find on their higher-end boards. They feel pretty smooth, but I felt the sound was a bit weak. This can also be had as a barebones kit for $54 at launch

 In my opinion, I would say go with the lower priced $54 barebones kit and do your own switches and keycaps. While smooth, the optional K Pro switches sound pretty thin in my opinion, even more so than the standard Gateron Reds, and the Keychron OSA keycaps are not my favorite in terms of looks or sound. And if you want the ultimate version, grab some O-rings from Amazon and that simple mod really transforms the V1 to provide a much higher level sound from a $54 package. It's similar to what happened with the Tofu

 These are made by Texi and features a proprietary HPE blend that is set to improve upon the standard UHMWPE. It's a long stem pole switch, and it does have a nice solid sound profile, so I thought it would be perfect for this application. For keycaps, I used PBTFans Purpolge keycaps from KBTFans. I think these look awesome with this smoky black case, so hey, let's put all this together and see what happens

However, with a 10-hour battery life, it'll give you enough juice to last the workday.

Impressively, this cheap little unit has a hot-swappable printed circuit board, meaning you can pull out the stock switches and replace them with any switch you want to control how your keyboard feels and sounds during use. Plus, with a hot-swappable PCB, you can replace broken or malfunctioning switches without soldering anything. You can buy a few different variants of this keyboard with different wireless connectivity options and backlighting colors, meaning you can save a bit more money if you don't care about RGB lighting or having a USB receiver.

If you need a good cheap keyboard for coding, we recommend the ROYAL KLUDGE RK61. Despite its cheap price point, this compact keyboard has a hot-swappable printed circuit board, meaning you can easily replace the stock switches with your preferred switch. It's an extremely versatile unit, connecting with multiple devices over Bluetooth, or you can get a variant that includes a USB receiver if you're planning on using it in a noisier Bluetooth environment, like an office.

 The lights shine brighter than my N-Pro and are on par with most high quality keyboards. You can control the animation, color, speed and brightness with onboard controls and you get a good variety of colors and animations and whites look great too. This keyboard can also be used wirelessly over Bluetooth. By hitting function and tab, you can switch from wireless to wired mode back and forth without unplugging the keyboard

 Also, they're double-shots, so legends won't wear out over time. And the material they use is translucent, so it will let light shine through.  Somewhere along the way I got more and more into custom keyboards and have kind of lost sight of the benefits of those budget priced pre-built boards. As much as I praised the GK61 back in the day, you wouldn't catch me using it at all now. Well today I want to put my bias aside and go back to my roots and take a look at a popular budget gaming keyboard for what it is. Today I'm reviewing one of the most requested keyboards on this channel, the Royal Clutch RK61

 There is a link to download software and I did download and install it but it is literally just a program that has nothing more than a picture of the keyboard, a couple of icons that will link you to the manufacturer's website and store, and that's it. It does nothing. Don't even bother to download it. That all said I really don't think you need it if you're buying a board like this

 They do admittedly feel a little mushy at times, like there's some ever so slight resistance when bottoming out, but it's not terrible. The stabilizers aren't perfect but they sound a lot better than a lot of other similar boards in this price range. I've even had a couple custom boards that I built where the stock stabilizers included with that build did not sound as good as these do. It's weird, I don't understand it, but whatever Royal Clutch is doing over there they need to teach everyone else to do

 Well today I want to put my bias aside and go back to my roots and take a look at a popular budget gaming keyboard for what it is. Today I'm reviewing one of the most requested keyboards on this channel, the Royal Clutch RK61. This was sent to me for review, but as always my opinion is my own. And I'll say right now, I would not buy this keyboard for myself and that's simply because with the keyboards I mainly use, I wouldn't need it

Royal Kludge RK61 Review 2021 - Is it worth it?? - YouTube

I picked my Royal Kludge RK100 up for $80, it's usually $90 but there was a coupon that popped up on amazon. For $80, I couldn't be *too* upset about the lack of dissasembly options and the raised LEDs, but had I known that was the situation, I likely would have just gotten a Keychron K4 instead for a little bit more.

Upgrading the stabilizers and keycaps are almost a must for this keyboard and really improve it quite a bit. I went a step further and got Durock Daybreak silent linears to swap in since I knew I needed to quiet the keeb a bit and wasn't about to pay >$1/switch for Zeal silent anything. 

2nd custom keeb that I got for my workdesk. I wanted something with a numpad and the USB passthrough was nice so I could use a wireless mouse.



Overall, the board feels solid, no flex, pretty hefty, and has some pretty useful features, though it falls short a bit for a keyboard enthusiast.



It features hotswap switched, only comes with the blue backlighting but supposedly there will be a full RGB version down the road. Hopefully that will include some tweaks as there are a few things I took issue with.



Firstly, it cannot be dissasembled. I know some other Royal Kludge boards have guides walking you through how to take it apart, however this one has no such guide and the screws securing the plate to the case are not all accessible. There are a couple points where there's obviously a standoff, but the screw was welded over or soldered over, making this keyboard impossible to fix if you end up breaking a hotswap socket, and completely prevents any sound dampening from being added.



That being said, the case sounds very solid out of the box, though the stabs are complete trash- too much play in the housing on the stabilizers. The keycaps are quite thin and do not block the back light at all despite not being "shine-through" keycaps- sort of like holding a bright flashlight up to you fingers, you'll see the keycap stem and supports underneath. 



Upgrading the stabilizers and keycaps are almost a must for this keyboard and really improve it quite a bit. I went a step further and got Durock Daybreak silent linears to swap in since I knew I needed to quiet the keeb a bit and wasn't about to pay >$1/switch for Zeal silent anything. 



Unfortunately, this keyboard has raised SMD LEDs. The Keychron K2 hotswap does not, and that was my first keyboard, so I didn't even think about it when I purchased the Royal Kludge RK100. This meant that the bottom housing of the Durck switches was incompatible- but I didn't want to buy another set of switches and let these gather dust, so I frankenswitched them with the Gateron Reds that came with the board, using only the Gateron bottom housing so they would fit in the board. I also lubed&filmed the switched which gave them a very snug fit.



I picked my Royal Kludge RK100 up for $80, it's usually $90 but there was a coupon that popped up on amazon. For $80, I couldn't be *too* upset about the lack of dissasembly options and the raised LEDs, but had I known that was the situation, I likely would have just gotten a Keychron K4 instead for a little bit more.


Pros:

- heft
- relatively quiet case
- connectivity (bluetooth, 2.4ghz, and wired)
- USB passthrough (wired mode only)



Cons:
- cannot dissasemble for modification or repair
- thin keycaps
- rattly stabilizers
- raised SMD leds
- ONLY in blue backlit option (at the moment)
- no layout customization


Really, if you are gentle when installing switches, and dont intend to do anything more than swap keycaps, stabs, and switches, then the Royal Kludge RK100 is okay. If you want to modify the board in any other way though, from painting, to sound dampening, or repair the hotswap sockets, you'll be SOL on this one. Overall, 3/5, it's okay if you don't need to take it a part OR if you really need the USB pass through on a budget. Otherwise, I'd recommend something else entirely.

Hopefully I've mentioned the board enough to have it come up in search if any enthusiasts need more info on this keyboard.

<div class="md">2nd custom keeb that I got for my workdesk. I wanted something with a numpad and the USB passthrough was nice so I could use a wireless mouse.

Overall, the board feels solid, no flex, pretty hefty, and has some pretty useful features, though it falls short a bit for a keyboard enthusiast.

It features hotswap switched, only comes with the blue backlighting but supposedly there will be a full RGB version down the road. Hopefully that will include some tweaks as there are a few things I took issue with.

Firstly, it cannot be dissasembled. I know some other Royal Kludge boards have guides walking you through how to take it apart, however this one has no such guide and the screws securing the plate to the case are not all accessible. There are a couple points where there&#39;s obviously a standoff, but the screw was welded over or soldered over, making this keyboard impossible to fix if you end up breaking a hotswap socket, and completely prevents any sound dampening from being added.

That being said, the case sounds very solid out of the box, though the stabs are complete trash- too much play in the housing on the stabilizers. Royal Kludge RK100, Durock Daybreak Silent Linears, KAT PBT

Today I am reviewing the Royal Kludge 61. This keyboard seems to have a lot going for it. An entry level price at forty-five dollars, mechanical switches, backlighting, and Bluetooth. Let’s see how it holds up in real world use though

 Other than the outrageously horrible examples I provided above the rest of the layout is all but standard and is simple to use.

 The keyboard comes with blue Jixian switches. They have a satisfying click and tactile bump. The pitch is much higher than my buckling spring keyboard, but also much lighter. I would say that they are smooth enough for general use
