  I also examined the Camp 18 that I also received same day and it was flawless. I have yet to put it through a workout but I'm certain that it's a beast. It is razor sharp and I mean RAZOR SHARP!! I'll write a review of the 18 under the Camp 18 section but I wanted to share that this defect on the 10 was not present on the the 18.  Please don't let this prevent you from buying the blade

  This means that this is a defect in the manufacturing of the blade or blade sharpening. I never used the blade but had I, I have no doubt in my mind that those faults would have cracked through.  I provided pictures for you to see. I rated this a 3/5 instead of a 1/5 because the knife is a beast and though the flaws were there it's still razor sharp

 You can feel it with your fingernail. These crevices are exactly on the other side of the blade in the same location.  This means that this is a defect in the manufacturing of the blade or blade sharpening. I never used the blade but had I, I have no doubt in my mind that those faults would have cracked through

 It was flawless to the naked eye and RAZOR SHARP. I will put the Camp 10 through a rigorous workout and report back But for now this is just to confirm that you can get a good blade. How often do the Camp 10 have these defects? Only the reviews will say for sure. See you all soon

It's critical for you to inspect your blade's edge even right out of the box.

 The actual edge is a secondary bevel that's shallower that I expected to see on a blade like this, and actually looks like it was polished a bit at the factory, which I did not expect to see at this price point. The problem is with the secondary bevel; the steepness gives great bite into whatever you're working on, but at the same time, it reduces strength. Combine a fairly soft heat treat, where the blade hardness is comparable to an axe or hatchet blade, and it's easy to nick or ding the edge and create a flat spot. If you accidentally hit the ground or a rock while using this blade, expect to get a ding in the edge

 The shorter blade and lighter weight compared to the Golok, combined with the saber-ground edge, make it both more maneuverable, easy to control, and efficient. I got more clean hits when chopping than with the Golok doing the same work. If you're looking for a "big knife", "big chopper", or a "one tool" cutter/chopper for camping, this is the best value for the money I've ever seen. You won't be disappointed

 Overall though, as I use the knife and will be sharpening it, I'll convex the edge for more strength and durability. If you take this knife into the woods with you, make sure you have some kind of sharpening device; you'll need it.  In sum, an excellently designed knife and sheath, at a great price. I compared it with my Condor Tool and Knife "Golok" machete, and much to my surprise, the C10 out-chopped it, and was much better for lighter cutting tasks

 After taking a green kitchen scrubber to it to get the pine sap off the blade, it wore through almost completely. Normally this would be a significant issue for me, but given the price point of the knife, I can accept it.  -Blade, particularly edge, grind. The blade is what's usually referred to as a saber-grind; a full thickness section along the spine or back edge of the blade, tapering linearly down to the edge

Good quality, not without flaws, but overall an incredible value.

 I typically build small camp fires, and because it doesn't really have a full tang, I wasn't about to do any batoning with it. For what I do with it, it's great. Do not expect this knife to be an all-around knife for your camping and fire building adventures. This is NOT a heavy-duty knife

Cold Steel Royal Kukri Machete Review and Test Cutting

 The handle is the polymer material, long polypropylene, it's five and a quarter inch long. It has a very big swell at the butt pommel end so that you don't have to worry about your hand, sliding forward when you're fatigued from continuous chopping action. Very sharp right out of the box has an oversized lanyard hole and the handle there's texturing. All the way around the handle, so it's just a very grippy material - feels good in the hand the overall length of this kukri machete majors in at 19 and a quarter inches the blade length is 14 inches long

Today, on Oscar grande knives, calm we're looking at the cold steel royal kukri machete model 97 km. Igs, it's been completely redesigned. This kukri has for 2013. It'S got a new blade shape slightly different with a tip, that's better for piercing

 The blade thickness is 2.8 millimeters again, the handle is five and a quarter inch long, polypropylene and it weighs in at 18 ounces. It comes with this nylon sheath, which it fits in there very nice and easy with dual snaps to retain it. It'S a very nice kukri machete and at the price of only 28 95 you can afford to buy two or three of them buy it now on Oso grande nice calm

 Then the previous model was it's not quite so pronounced an arc. Is the predecessors were? It also has a very nice finger guard on the lower portion of the blade, which gives you a really good guard against sliding forward on the cutting edge.  It seems like pretty good quality and feels great in the hand but the blade came VERY dull. It's dull to the point that you can actually drag a finger down the blade and it won't cut. I understand this is a machete and works more on just brute force but I am still disappointed on how dull this was. I've had cold steel in the past and they've always been great knives and came shaving sharp out of the box. This knife not so much. It seems like pretty good quality and feels great in the hand but the blade came VERY dull. It's dull to the point that you can actually drag a finger down the blade and it won't cut

  Update: A friend just brought over a Condor Tool and Knife Heavy Duty Kukri and I have to say its very impressive. If you want a kukri that's almost as good as the Himalayan Imports chiruwa ang khola (which is $200 BTW) and is under $70 look no further. The only issue I have with it is that there is almost no distal taper in the blade. Basically it's the same thickness from the pommel to tip

 But it has a apple seed (convex grind) edge and a 1075 German steel blade with a mild temper for durability. Very nice kukri for only about twice the cost of this. But it will not double as a machete. It's too heavy

For the money this thing is great. I love the redesigned geometry and grip too. Together they make it a much more effective machete. It's a lot easier to handle than the original Cold Steel kukri machete

A great all around kukri.

 I got it with the factory sharp blade but decided to pull out my lansky puck and give it an edge I could use to chop mosquitoes in half. This thing took the edge well and held it a respectable amount of time given I was basically just hacking anything I could reach.  The design of this thing makes it great on thicker brush as you are making contact with the thickest part of the inward curve of the blade. This gives you quite a bit of extra "umph" in your swing, pretty much ensuring you get through whatever you are aiming at

  It's a bit larger than the traditional khukuri size, but for what I was using it for, perfect.  It comes with a fitted nylon case in which the knife must be sheathed a certain way. I like this as it makes you think and ensure that you properly sheath the knife instead of just shoving it in all willy nilly and accidentally cutting a tendon.  I have since resharpened it and coated it in oil and it is hanging in my garage waiting to tackle next year's overgrown brush or intimidate any overly nosy neighbor

Is it kukri or khukuri?  Either way great for nosy neighbors.

 It gives a nice weight forward feel, but can still be recovered like a normal Latin style machete. A great nod to the advantages of the kukri design.

This is my second South African Cold Steel machete. My first impressions are that it is as expected at this price. Let's break it down.

 Other than that, still a good machete to match the one my dog may have chewed the handle of.

The blade comes sharp. I have had some in the past with a full burr on it. It cost $20, so a little sharpening never bothered me. This one had a nice burrless edge
