You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice

 Based on your son’s size, level of experience and the overall program days, I’d look to get a wood core twin tip freestyle or freeride ski. That’s something like a Volkl Revolt Jr or a Praxis MVP Jr. Something 120-130 cm in length should be fine.

We have had issues with almost everything else from the big brands. I can’t personally speak for the durability of the Faction kids stuff, but the durability of their adult stuff is really questionable. My son is turning 8 at Christmas and currently skis a 113cm 2014 Line Snow Angel Junior Ski with Look Team 4 binding, new last season (old stock, it's a girl's ski but that's dumb at age 7 and it was a killer price). Last year was his first year skiing and he was happily hitting decent little jumps (up to 3 feet drops, landing 15 feet away, but no tricks or anything beyond that). This year I have him signed up for Tremblant's freestyle seasonal program, which is 42 full days of instruction/freestyle skiing. I am wondering if I should get him news skis and if so, what? There's limited info about kids skis compared to adult skis, I mean in reviews and forums and so on. Ideally would like to buy skis a year or two out of date to save $$, but that's not essential.

He is about 125cm/49inches now and weighs maybe 23kgs/51lbs. The online size guides say the 113cm are still fine, but that info is very generic and I don't know whether it's different with twin tips or the kind (and amount) of skiing he'll be doing, etc. Last year he had just turned 7 and at that age a full year of growth is a big deal, especially combined with an intensive program like the one he is doing this year.

Faction has a bunch of kids skis that they bill as mini-versions of the cool freestyle skis for adults, but I don't have a sense of whether the Prodigy 0, 1 or 2 would be appropriate. Or maybe some other brand? Or maybe his Snow Angels are fine for another season? Any advice very much appreciated.

freestyle ski for kid turning 8?

So i would consider myself an all mountain skier whos been having more fun in the park doing jumps and small rails. Tree trails are my personal favorite and I'm looking for a solid ski that can perform in all of these terrains. I'm 6'1 230lbs. So far from my research, the atomic bent chetller 100s seem to be a good fit but wanted to ask ya'll for any other recommendations maybe some with cooler graphics? Thanks!
