You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice

 It carves amazingly well. I even did a ski race on these things this year and this is the one. I love it. And 99% of the time I ski the QST 99 every time

 They've got a ton of good stability built into this ski now. In fact they made it more stable. It's slightly heavier than past versions if you know the ski from before but it's become that much more stable. So this has become my go-to ski every day from moguls, crud, powder, hard pack

 Turns initiate, super easy, it's kind of one of those friendly skis that that doesn't kick you around too much and that's kind of how my skiing has become a little bit. I love to ski powder obviously but I also know that the powder gets tracked out, turns into bumps, crud, whatever. They've got a ton of good stability built into this ski now. In fact they made it more stable

 So really important for a ski like this in the kind of terrain you're tackling is that vibrations that hit the front of the ski and throughout the ski are sucked up and absorbed to keep the edge where it wants to be and keep you sort of pointing in the right direction. So that's been a big improvement. We've tested these out extensively and yeah, super impressed with how it's improved the ski. It's always been a big favorite of ours, the QST 99

 In terms of size, the one I've got here is a 181. They do a 174 and a 188 as well and usually the 181 is the most popular. That's why we've got it in a demo set here but you can size up and size down accordingly and I say on all my reviews is just if you're unsure of size give us a call, drop us an email and we can give you a bit more advice because it is quite personal whether you want to size up or size down depending on your weight, ability etc. So yeah we can give you plenty of advice on that

 But yeah my advice is definitely very very good ski for someone who's looking to get around everywhere and a big improvement from previous season versions.

 We've tested these out extensively and yeah, super impressed with how it's improved the ski. It's always been a big favorite of ours, the QST 99. I think they've just stepped up their game with this. Also in the tip you've got cork throughout the tip here as well
