 All the Mindbender skis for both men and women feature what's called torsion control design philosophy in which we make the ski a little bit more torsionally stiff in the forebody of the ski to make it nice and precise and easy to initiate turns and then we gradually relax that stiffness as we get towards the tail to make the ski nice and easy to manipulate and compliant when you want to manipulate that turn shape. So from a freeride setting that's a perfect blend of precision as well as forgiveness. The Mindbender 106 Carbon Alliance features a women-specific wood core and then also a ton of technology built into this. It's a little bit lighter weight ski because it's really meant for softer snow and powder snow conditions and what we do to we complement that lightweight women-specific core with a full carbon fiber spectral braid in which we can vary the angle here in the forebody so it's nice and tight to make that ski very precise from a turn initiation standpoint but then those angles in the variable X cloth here really get more relaxed as we get towards the tail and that allows it to slash and drift whenever you want it to

 So whether you're making a longer radius turns down a mellow or back bowl slope in the pow or you're skiing a tight shoot this thing is going to really be easy to manipulate the turn shape on. It features a powder rocker forebody as well as tail so it's going to give you tons of flotation especially with that 106 waist width it's going to be a phenomenal ski for your expert level female skier looking for something for the best days of the year as well as something that's still versatile enough to ski the day or two days after a good storm that 106 waist width still going to give you plenty of flotation in the crud and chewed up conditions but still not so wide that it's not going to be effective on hard pack at all. It features also a full vertical sidewall here and then again that powder rocker is going to make it float really well.  I found that the wide tip was enough on a powder day that you'd get enough float, but you would still be able to navigate the crud and they held a pretty good groomer. They were able to plow through the skied out stuff, but still be able to float through the light and fluffy. I think this ski would be best for an intermediate to advanced, it handles well throughout the whole mountain. The tips, because they are so wide, they can be a little grabby, but you do want that for the powder days, so I think a beginner might struggle a little bit, but I think the intermediate to advanced will have a really fun time and they'll be able to tackle the whole mountain

 I tested the K2 Mine Vendor 106C Alliance. The mine vendors did really well in a variety of terrain.  It really gives it this lively, energetic feel without the added weight of metal. And also it's obviously less demanding without metal. Carbon and wood core really do a great job at blending a lot of properties that go really well together to enhance performance between maneuverability and stability which is ideal for all-mountain performance. For shape and profile, we have all-terrain rocker and like I said earlier, this model has a bit more rocker this year

 This year's model carries forward the same construction as last year's but with new graphics. This is a wider, more rockered version with a directional profile which is a little bit different than your typical 106 underfoot ski that's geared more towards soft snow, powder conditions because it has a more directional profile. So speaking to the construction of this ski, we have an Aspen veneer core which, as we know from that material, just has lightweight properties and just enhances maneuverability and agility. And then in addition to that, we have two carbon applications

 And I don't know if you can see it but I could see it a little bit ago when I first looked at the ski up here. But it's basically this weaved technology that goes throughout the ski and it has the carbon materials weaved horizontally in the tip and underfoot. And then as you get closer to the tail, it changes to a more vertical shape. So what that does is it just adds more precision and control in the tips by the placement of the carbon, you know, stability and torsional rigidity underfoot

Instead of having to pack a ski for groomers and a ski for powder days, the Nordica provides you with an all-in-one option. The Santa Ana 98 performed particularly well in the crud, staying stiff enough to punch through anything the mountain threw at it. It also floats well in powder, feels stable at high speeds, can carve a mean arc, and pivots easily around a mogul field.

 98 is a very happy medium, fantastic color weight, beautiful beautiful, looking ski nordica's nailed it again: um great ski [, Music, ], [, Music ]. You 

 Love really completes that turn really drives into the turn. I like that. A lot um 98 underfoot for norway, perfect yeah it'll, give you a little bit of float uh when there is some snow today we have hard pack - and this was this - is perfect.  It'S got like the metal sheets that i quite like, because it gives a lot of stability. It'S poppy, it's pivoty, it's fun, um fabulous, didn't feel too much at all on this uh groom. These groomed conditions here at northway we're getting really hard packed. So the edges were fantastic made

 Like this you're losing some of the ski in the tip and tail with that twin profile, it's nice transfer of energy, it's fun all around 98 is a fantastic width. The 165 length is really good for my um stature. I think i don't know if i'd go. Any longer jf, i don't think i'd go shorter

NORDICA SANTA ANA 98 | 2021 SKI TEST

 Rather than a high speed tool for strong skiers, this feels more suited to being an everyday ski for intermediates, but at a price point most skiers would be happy with. And that trickle-down graphic from the more freeride-focussed models does make for genuine good looks and rack appeal.

 I had the older, heavier, double-titanal-layer version of the Santa Ana 110 in a 177 cm and hadn’t really skied them before taking them out on vacation.
