 All the Mindbender skis for both men and women feature what's called torsion control design philosophy in which we make the ski a little bit more torsionally stiff in the forebody of the ski to make it nice and precise and easy to initiate turns and then we gradually relax that stiffness as we get towards the tail to make the ski nice and easy to manipulate and compliant when you want to manipulate that turn shape. So from a freeride setting that's a perfect blend of precision as well as forgiveness. The Mindbender 106 Carbon Alliance features a women-specific wood core and then also a ton of technology built into this. It's a little bit lighter weight ski because it's really meant for softer snow and powder snow conditions and what we do to we complement that lightweight women-specific core with a full carbon fiber spectral braid in which we can vary the angle here in the forebody so it's nice and tight to make that ski very precise from a turn initiation standpoint but then those angles in the variable X cloth here really get more relaxed as we get towards the tail and that allows it to slash and drift whenever you want it to

 So whether you're making a longer radius turns down a mellow or back bowl slope in the pow or you're skiing a tight shoot this thing is going to really be easy to manipulate the turn shape on. It features a powder rocker forebody as well as tail so it's going to give you tons of flotation especially with that 106 waist width it's going to be a phenomenal ski for your expert level female skier looking for something for the best days of the year as well as something that's still versatile enough to ski the day or two days after a good storm that 106 waist width still going to give you plenty of flotation in the crud and chewed up conditions but still not so wide that it's not going to be effective on hard pack at all.  I found that the wide tip was enough on a powder day that you'd get enough float, but you would still be able to navigate the crud and they held a pretty good groomer. They were able to plow through the skied out stuff, but still be able to float through the light and fluffy. I think this ski would be best for an intermediate to advanced, it handles well throughout the whole mountain. The tips, because they are so wide, they can be a little grabby, but you do want that for the powder days, so I think a beginner might struggle a little bit, but I think the intermediate to advanced will have a really fun time and they'll be able to tackle the whole mountain

 I tested the K2 Mine Vendor 106C Alliance. The mine vendors did really well in a variety of terrain.  Also a beautiful ski, it's my favorite graphic in the Mime Bender Alliance lineup. When we talk about where to take this ski, mostly powder with a 106 waist but you still will be able to pop onto the trails and groomers and crud but it's definitely going to have a little bit more float than something with an 80 or 90 waist. So it is definitely more geared towards that free ride powder day. But with the nice shape of the ski, you can take it into the woods, pop into the moguls and bumps and be able to release that tail easily and maneuver your way around

 Construction wise, the ski is constructed of their spectral braid, which is a braid that runs through the ski. In different areas it's tighter woven and in other areas it is a little less woven to help release. So mainly in the tail it's going to help you release and in the tips and under the foot it's going to help you hold that edge throughout that turn. The Mime Bender, which is all in the free ride category, has an all-terrain rocker which has a nice low gradual rise in the tip, camber underfoot and a little bit of tail rise to help you release those tails

You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice
