 I've got to give it to Ibis for really putting a new perspective on what we can expect from this category. All right. So who is this bike for? Well, it's an incredibly versatile trail bike that's just his home on long, epic rides in the mountains. As it is on a short local lunch lap, I have no hesitation at all taking it to the bike park

 It's a different world these days, and the building wave of bike innovations seems to continuously swell with no crest in sight. But the latest and greatest isn't what defines our enjoyment. And you know what? I'll be the first to admit, I sometimes get a little too lost in the luster of those new shiny parts. So when my buddy Sean at N Plus One Bikes asked if I'd be interested in reviewing the Ibis Ritmo Af, a sensibly priced aluminum frame trail bike that's been wildly praised for the last couple of years, I actually saw this as an opportunity to see just how things have trickled down to the very core of it all

 Still fun to ride. It's not just a great bike for someone coming into the sport, it's a bike that even a seasoned rider can have a total blast riding. It's modern, progressive geometry, can tackle all sorts of terrain and handle very aggressive riding, but it's also not so long in slack that you'll be penalized for approaching this bike with more relaxed attitude. The Dw link suspension design is known for its well-balanced feel and great climbing efficiency, but still sits in that sweet spot of offering calm and controlled performance on the descents

Is the Ibis Ripmo AF still the best value in 2022?

Geometry and suspension are where the money should go, so I applaud Ibis for focusing on that with the Ripmo AF. All the Deore reviews say it works as well as the more expensive Shimano stuff, so it’s really just weight, which shouldn’t matter much for a bike in this category. A top end drive train might save you a pound or so—who cares? And the 4-piston Deore brakes should be great too, no big loss there.

The Ibis has a very good suspension platform and suspension components, although the other components (drivetrain/brakes) are worse than similarly-priced direct to consumer brands. Would you consider the better suspension package worth the trade-off on drivetrain/brakes? What are your overall opinions on the Ripmo?

Opinions on the Ibis Ripmo AF Deore?

Currently my Ripmo AF sits at 39lbs for bike park. Usually around 36 for pedaling season but I am 5'9" 140lbs with a fused ankle and skinny lets due to a motorcycle 10 years ago left me with a limp and a lot of pain so exercising mass/power into my legs is near impossible. I have the endurance but the power just isn't there. I'm ready to upgrade to something lighter and all around better

 I Think it for a rider that's light on the bike and chooses their lines well, this bikes really not going to hold him back. While the trail was incredibly slick, the bike was really easy to get on line and keep on line. But I think one of the things that does help the remedy is the suspension. It has that through shaft reactive rock, shocks, shock in the back and the new Fox 36 with a grip damper up front

The new grip to damper and that's a I think that's a big plus for this bike. It's ultra adjustable and that fork is very good

 what it is is a pivot that rotate concentric way around the rear axle. One thing that hasn't been carried over though for 2019 is the full floater. All previous Remedy designs, the shock was actually floating. It was mounted on the rocker link and it was mounted on a short extension that came off the front of the chainstays

 There's some touches here and a big focus of tracks has been on frame rigidity. The shock itself is actually from rock shocks, but it's using pen skis, reactive valve you can read about that and it's a through shaft design that eliminates an internal floating piston that would usually separate the gas and the oil. Now when you eliminate the IFP you eliminate a seal and it's supposed to make for a more active ride so we'll see how that plays out. up front

Trek Remedy Review | 2019 Pinkbike Field Test

 Now do I plan to do any upgrades on this bike? Personally, for me, this bike has a lot for me to grow into. I'm a beginner at mountain biking and this bike is really well specced so it's going to last me for a long time, just the way it is Now for those of you who are more interested in a carbon bike with higher level components, you want to be looking at the Trek Remedy 9 variants and those are going to be the higher end Remedy bikes. And is this bike worth the money? I would say if you're in this price range of bikes and I was comparing a lot of different bikes as well, I would say this configuration just worked really well for me as far as the level of components that were on there and the type of writing that I wanted to do so.  Now, this bike is full suspension and it has 150 mail travel in the rear and 160 mil travel in the front fork. Now you might think that with 160 mil travel, that would make this an enduro bike. Now within the Trek lineup, they have the Fuel Ex and that is 130 mil travel in the rear and 140 mil travel in the front fork. and they're calling that the trail bike

 So for the seat set up here, we've got the Bontrager Arvada seat. The dropper post is a Bontrager line dropper post and it's got 150 ml of travel. Now with all that, how do I like the bike so far? Well, in another video, I'm going to do a more comprehensive review, but so far I've taken it out for a few laps and I gotta say, I've really enjoyed this bike so far. Climbing has been great with this bike

 So for the suspension on this bike, in the rear, we've got the Rockshox Super Deluxe Select plus 150 mil travel and then on the front fork, we've got 160 mil travel from the Rock Shock Lyric Select plus. So for the drive train on this bike, we've got the Sram Gx Eagle. This is a 30 tooth chain ring up front here and then on the rear We've got a 10 to 52 and that 52 climbing gear is real nice and then on the rear derailleur. Here I actually have a Sram X01 This didn't come stock

My New 2021 Trek Remedy 8! Tour of the bike and initial review

 Firstly I have experienced the brand and had no problems with my fuel EX, secondly the sheer value for money on offer in the Remedy 8. Out of the three lower priced Remedy's on offer I found the Aluminium 8 model to offer the best spec of fork/shock and, most importantly, an Eagle GX drivetrain. 

At 5'11" I opted for the 19.5" frame size as I felt this gave the best balance of standover height and reach. I wasn't immediately struck by the colour scheme but having viewed the model at a local Retailer changed my opinion, the matt dark grey finish looks much better in the flesh! 

 By far the best upgrade from my previous ride has to be the Eagle drivetrain which really does 'flatten the hills'. A few people have asked about the knock bloc steerer being obtrusive but I have yet to come against it on any of the tightest turns I have ridden.

Having upgraded my Fuel with a Reverb stealth dropper I was keen to see how the cable operated Bontrager offering would fare. So far so good as the lever action is positive and I have not experienced any sticking or slow return. By far the best upgrade from my previous ride has to be the Eagle drivetrain which really does 'flatten the hills'. I have owned the bike for three months now and used it at least once a week so have managed to put a few miles in over varying terrain and in different conditions. Riding in the UK at North Wales trail centres and on a few cross country hacks I was immediately struck by the accomplished feel of the suspension however, it took a few goes to get the high compression setting of the fork so that I was completely comfortable with it. Whilst the brakes are good enough the bike would benefit from an upgrade if you like to go flat out down the steeper sections. 

Three months use on this value for money, long travel bike

The frame is stiff but supple and very controllable. you feel in the bike, as if you are wearing it rather than riding it. The rear suspension is nothing short of phenomenal. It takes nothing away from even hard pedal strokes and this makes you feel you are in for a rough ride on a rocky section but, no - it absolutely flies over

I decided to upgrade to an Enduro and although Trek was not my first choice (I wanted the very similar Radon Swoop, but no dealers in HK), I am extremely pleased with the bike.
