But it has a very satisfying click when you rotate those back into place. See if you can hear this. Overall, it feels really well built

 And what that translates to is that you get some really deep lows for bass notes and music or explosions when you're gaming. But then also some very nice crisp clear highs, so you can pick out footsteps or, you know, pushes, wrestling or, you know, whatever game you're playing, whatever kind of stuff's going on. Which makes it easier to pinpoint opponent's positions. On both sides of that spectrum, though, it's not too much, you know, it's not too boomy on the low end

HyperX Cloud Flight S Review: The first Qi charging wireless headset

 Hey everyone, Jordan here with 9to5toys, and today we're going to be taking a look at the brand new HyperX CloudFlight S wireless gaming headset.

 And the main thing that sets this brand new headset apart from other wireless headsets is it's the first with Qi wireless charging.

 This is a huge convenience factor that you can just set your headset down on a charging mat and not have to fumble with any cables, so let's check it out.

 We got to take a sneak peek at the HyperX CloudFlight S at CES 2020 this year, and we're really excited to check out this first wireless charging headset.

 HyperX is a household name with gaming peripherals, and I really enjoyed the Quadcast microphone that we checked out last year.

 But this is my first time really spending much time with one of their headsets, and overall I've been really impressed.

 So let's get into some of the details here. Design-wise, the CloudFlight S doesn't really stray too far from one of the previous headsets, the HyperX CloudFlight.

 You can see it has a similar earcup overall design with the large HyperX logo here.

 We have the large yokes, and then we have some controls on the bottoms of the earcups.

 On the left earcup, we find that there's a removable microphone. There's a micro USB port for charging the HyperX traditionally.

 There is a power button and a status LED light, and then also the 7.1 on-off button.

 On the right earcup, we find the volume control, this little dial down here.

 One of the main differences with the CloudFlight S from some of their earlier headsets is the addition of four tactile buttons here on the left earcup.

 Sometimes headsets like the Audio-Technica ATH-G1WL that I've been using for a while can get a little bit cluttered with controls down on the bottom.

 So what the CloudFlight S does is it has four tactile buttons on here, which make it super easy to find those controls you're looking for.

 By default, the top button is a mic monitoring, the bottom is mic muting, and then the left and right buttons adjust the game slash chat volume balance.

 So that makes it super easy to find, you know, whatever control you're looking for and to adjust everything, and I was really impressed with that design.

 This left earcup is also where the wireless charging takes place, so when you're done with it, you just set that down on a Qi charging mat, and it'll start charging right away.

 Some further design elements here, we can see it has the large HyperX logo across the top of the headband there, but then it has a nice cushion as well underneath.

 And these are rated at, I think, 310 grams, so pretty lightweight for, you know, being a pretty large headset with a 30-hour battery life, which is quite a bit for a gaming headset.

 It also has steel sliders for adjusting the headband size.

 And another cool thing, obviously, it has the 90-degree turning rotation, so you can, you know, place the headset on your shoulders when you're done with it or taking a break, and you can still move your head really easily.

 But it has a very satisfying click when you rotate those back into place. See if you can hear this.

 Overall, it feels really well built. The earcups have some nice memory foam cushion covered by a leatherette, which is very soft.

 And I didn't have any issues wearing these for gaming. I found them very comfortable.

 So obviously, as a wireless gaming headset, you know, that's one of the key features. We have the little 2.4 gigahertz wireless dongle here. You can plug into your PC or PlayStation 4 to use that.

 It also has the same 30-hour battery life, like we've mentioned from the earlier Cloud Flight.

 But then, of course, the main feature of this is the wireless Qi charging, which makes it super convenient for a wireless headset.

 They're oftentimes the audio-technica. I forget to plug it in, and because of the shorter battery life, you know, it'll start to get a little bit low.

 But with the Cloud Flight S, it's not really an issue, because if you're sitting it down on a desk anyways, you have a designated spot for it with the wireless charging.

 You just put it on there, and next time you pick it up, it'll be ready to go. So it really is super convenient.

 And that really is, you know, just a convenience factor. Obviously, wireless charging isn't necessary for a headset. It's not going to help your performance or anything at all like that.

 But it does just make it easier to just lay it down and have it ready for you the next time you pick it up.

 I've been using it mainly with the HyperX ChargePlay base, which has the two different sides here.

 And there's a big red LED light that turns on when that side is charging to let you know that it, you know, has a good connection and that it's actually charging.

 And this has just been a great way to just set the headset down when I'm done using it, and it'll just recharge itself and be ready to go next time.

 And of course, because it's Qi wireless, you don't have to have this exact charging mat. I think this one's about $60.

 So you can get much more affordable ones on Amazon that will work fine with this as well.

 One of the other main features and updates over the earlier Cloud Flight is that with the S, you also have 7.1 surround sound.

 This is something you can turn on and off with the button down here. It's super easy to toggle on and off to test that out and see how it sounds to you.

 I've mentioned this with other headsets. I don't often use those kind of virtual surround sound settings.

 As soon as I turn it on, it just sounds kind of unnatural to me. And so I don't typically use them.
