The Head Oblivion 84 is the quintessential park and pipe ski for dedicated park rats and comp jocks alike. While wider park skis are becoming more popular in this day and age, it’s always nice to see a more traditionally built park ski with a slightly narrower waist and a simple shape. The Oblivion 84 starts with a laminate wood core which is where it gets all of its snap and pop. Head adds in their Independent Suspension System which provides vibration damping and impact absorbing properties for a smooth and quiet ride as well as some added stability on those big landings or in an icy pipe. One thing you would expect out of a park and pipe ski would be a bomber construction. Head uses their Tuff-wall, base and edge which are slightly thicker than average in order to handle the day-to-day abuse encountered in the park. In the tips and tails of the Oblivion 84 you’ll find a bit of tip and tail rocker which provide a bit of forgiveness as well as the ability to perform hook-free butters and presses. At 84 millimeters under the boot, the Oblivion 84 is lightweight and nimble for whipping around tricks, throwing big spins and dancing around on rails. It’s always nice when it feels like there’s nothing on your feet. Dedicated Park rats and progressing freestyle enthusiasts will enjoy the park prowess provided by the Head Oblivion 84.

 We also have a 94 in this, which does have a more dramatic rocker profile. But this one's pretty much fully cambered, just with that twin tip being pretty dramatic in that jut, and then the splay is substantial as well. Not quite as much splay in the tail, but a similar theory where it's pretty much cambered to the end, and then that ski bends out for that twin tip shape there. So great in the park and pipe, you know, you definitely want more of that full camber shape for energy popping off the lips and whatnot

 It does lead to a nice weight to the ski. I wouldn't go so far as to call it heavy, but not nearly as light as it may indicate. And then a nice park-specific flex, you know, just really nice and even throughout. Great for takeoffs and landings, especially with that twin tip there

And then backward skiing, obviously, as well. You know, 120, 84, 109 in the measurements, so it's not a symmetrical shape of a ski, but it's pretty close

You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice
