You have to hold the coffee maker in place while you force the carafe under the brew basket. I don't know if it's the spring on the brew basket or a problem with the lid on the carafe. Very frustrating. Perhaps a re-design of the two items mentioned above is in order

But it's there if you need it! Some not so likable things: The coffee maker takes a while to brew a pot! By a while, I mean 10-15 minutes. While this may not seem like a long time, most brewing methods should not have the water in contact with the grounds for more than 6 minutes max. Although the brew time for this machine doesn't seem to affect taste too much. Most coffee comes out slightly more bitter than when I brew with my Chemex, but it is still pretty tasty

Anyway, my new machine is now behind a 1800 Joule surge suppressor and I hope that will protect the machine longer than the next 19 months. The machine is so indispensable though I will likely get a third if this one dies. (Or maybe a competitor if there is a main brand alternative). Frank
