Gregory Zulu 30 Pack - Men's vs Gregory Jade 28L

The men's packs were medium/large, the larger of the 2 sizes available for 19 inch. The Osprey Stratos Large with an adjustable torso was my second favorite, but the straps just didn't sit right on my shoulders (a bit too wide and off balanced) and the hip belt didn't adjust to the curve of my waist and back (gapping). Fits great, is carry-on compliant as long as I don't overpack it, and is comfortable for longer hikes. Has both a topload and a front load option. I know there are a lot of Osprey fans in this subreddit but I never quite got the right fit with their bags, but Gregory bags seem to fit better.

This pack is super comfortable, and handles a light overnight load easily. Plenty of storage in the stretchy side pockets and front pocket. The molded frame makes getting stuff into the bottom of the pack kind of difficult, but not overly so if you pack stuff there you only need when the pack is empty (lightweight sleeping bag). Comes with a rain cover, so that's a big bonus too!

Also, even as a medium this pack ended up being too long for my torso and causes lower back pain from it sitting wrong. I will be returning this next time I'm near an REI.

I’m an avid backpacker and hiker, and recently had a baby. I quickly realized in taking the little monkey out that a lot of stuff was now required to hike with him. While my significant other carries the little one, I needed a pack that could act like both a hiking backpack and a diaper bag, which means it needs to be pretty big but not multi-night trip big. I’m typically a fan of Osprey, but this Gregory does not disappoint - it’s got all the features of an excellent lightweight overnight pack but in a smaller package

I compared it to my trusted Arcteryx Kata 37 of many hundreds of miles with more weight as well and could see the should straps were sewn in at an angle and spread out further then Kata 37 so the leading edge of the strap dug into my collar bones coupled with the packs hip belt is not designed to carry much weight like the Kata 37 so the weight pulled down onto my collar bone. Nice features,etc but bad design for me. Odd and funny is I hiked a long hike with a CamelBak Fourteener I had tried and had no such issues. It still wasn't as comfortable as my Kata and didn't fit as well my big frame but I did not get the intense collar bone pain

The main zip tends to take more work that it should. I'd also like to see the mesh panel on the back to be made of more nylon with mesh on the sides instead.

I’ll put in Gregory Jade 50. Has a J zipper on the front, so it’s good for traveling as well as straight up backpacking. They make an x small. I second others who encouraged you to try lightening your load
