GE Upright Freezer FUF17DLRWW vs Whynter CUF-210SS

RECOMMENDATION: AVOID this unit until GE Recalls units and fixes defective control boards. This is a know issue that they would rather fix later and inconvenience their customers. AVOID this vendor if you get a faulty one and expect a replacement instead of a repair (I didn’t mention, it was delivered without a box and the original box is required to return it)

I brought it back in the house and let it sit unplugged for 24 hours to allow any bubbles in the coolant to dissipate. I then plugged it back in and 24 hours after that opened it to find it frost free except for a slight surface film which was probably due to moisture in the freezer when I closed it back up. Since that time (about 10 days) I've had food back in the freezer and it continues to remain frost free. To sum it up, the freezer does work as it should, when it's put together properly

This GE freezer has really good efficiency for an upright, a neat temp readout and temp adjustment on front *lockable* door, and nice glass shelving inside (they also have a slightly cheaper model with wire racks). They delivered right on schedule, unboxed so we could check for damage, and were very courteous. I will now add appliances to my online shopping list!

It is quiet I must say. The size is as shown/stated and what I personally needed, nothing more, definitely nothing less. I am on an anti-waste quest. As an American we are notoriously wasteful, this purchase is my effort to stop the closeted hoarding behavior most Americans suffer with

Pros: lots of freezer space; has high temperature alarm; energy efficient. Cons: needs to be properly shimmed for door to close on its own, which may be difficult to to do alone; door hinge cannot be moved to allow opening in opposite direction.

Nobody seems to have these available. For the extra $100 over the big box stores I've got one sitting in the garage packed full of good stuff. Beats being backordered any day.
