 This tool has never been exposed to any kind of solvent or caustic chemical and I always remove the batteries after each use. Unless Franklin has now changed the grip material on its new models, expect to get a couple years usage before the problem surfaces. I’m not writing this review as a means to vent, I’m writing to be a good member of the Amazon community.  UPDATE: I called Franklin Sensors to let them know that there’s an issue with decaying grips

I’ve run into a problem

  Feautres: -There 13 LEDs that will indicate when a stud is found in your wall in relation to where you have the stud finder placed on your wall. -LEDs are bright and easily visible while operating the device. -Bottom of the stud finder is smooth so when your sliding it across your wall you don't have to worry about any unexpected damage. -Accurate time and time again -Ergonomics are second to none on this device -No longer do you have to press the power button ONLY after placing the device against the wall and then make sure to not accidentally let the device come off the wall resulting in misreadings

  First impression: Pulling the ProSensor 710 out of the box I was first surprised by how big the device was. It's 3 inches wide and a little over 7 inches long which is basically the equivalent of a chalk board eraser on steroids. I thought this would be an overall negative in terms of general use/handling but that isn't the case at all. In hand this stud finder just feels right

 This device removes all those complexities and all you have to do is press the button and just naturally slide across the wall without any concern of any short mis-contact as the device will compensate accordingly.  Cons: -Only real verdict I've found is the price which can turn some folks off.  Verdict: This is a higher priced digital wall stud finder but for the easy of use, accuracy and reliability is consistently provides me I would easily recommend it to anyone who is tired of guessing where the wall studs are in their house.

 If the joists run parallel, you cannot be certain if the wall is load-bearing or not. You'll need an engineer, architect, or Tom Silva to investigate BEFORE you remove the wall.  An exception would be when an existing structure has a wall added as a room divider . 

 If that is true, the wall can be removed. Again, get an expert to make the determination BEFORE you demolish a wall. It is not worth taking chances of having upper floors or the roof to crash down if the necessary support is removed.

The StudSensor A100 is Zircon’s newest edge locating electronic stud finder that is sold exclusively on Amazon. The A100 is designed with a smooth, ergonomic rubber grip allowing for a comfortable yet secure hold for any size hand, at any angle. This stud finder uses the most recent technology in density detecting software and circuitry. The scanner has 2 scanning modes to locate the edges of wood and metal studs and joists behind walls, floors, and in ceilings up to 1.5 inches (38 mm) deep. In StudScan Mode, the SS A100 locates the edges of shallower wood or metal studs up to 0.75 of an inch (19 mm) deep. Switch over to DeepScan Mode to double the scanning depth to 1.5 inches (38 mm). This stud sensor is programmed with a WireWarning Detection feature that indicates the presence of live unshielded electrical wires up to 2 inches (50 mm) deep when using either stud scanning modes. Finding studs using this edge finding tool is simple. To get started, install one brand new 9V alkaline battery (not included). Place the unit flat against the wall and press the Power Button to calibrate the sensor. Once you hear a beep indicating calibration is complete, continue to hold the Power Button and slowly slide the tool across the surface. The easy-to-read LCD will alert you as the stud detector approaches the edge of the stud in both scanning modes. Once the edge is detected, the patented arrow-shaped SpotLite Pointer will shine, the translucent base will illuminate, and an audio tone will sound. DO NOT DRILL HERE! For what it offers, the Zircon StudSensor A100 is an excellent tool. Although it's fairly simple, the few features it possesses are really nice and quite accurate. We found the edge sensing to be accurate to within 1/16 of an inch, and the illuminated arrow it casts on the wall makes for a really nice way to see and mark studs. The Zircon has two settings, StudScan and DeepScan, depending on how deep the material is. The Deepscan can sense 1.5 inches deep. It also does a good job of sensing wires and AC power with its wire warning.
Unlike the fancier models, the A100 doesn't differentiate between wood and metal studs, nor does it have many other features, although Zircon offers other premium &#40;read: pricier&#41; models that do. The A100 also must be held in a certain way to hit the button, although it's fairly ergonomic. Still, this was one of our favorite tools and is useful and accurate for most projects while keeping costs low.

  Finally, if you need to use Zircon warranty, they will make you pay to ship the part to them and make you pay ten dollars to cover shipping a replacement back, making their warranty service of limited use. If you are looking for a good stud finder, look elsewhere!

Poor Accuracy and Quality

The device itself is not bad. The problem is that I paid a lot for a new unit and what I got was used/refurb inside a cardboard box in bubble wrap with a used manual. If you are going to charge new price, send new item, otherwise, describe as used and price it so. NOT ok
