The other problem is that the BTR3K doesn't work with the microphone in my Apple Earpods: the person on the other end of the call just hears some high-pitched squealing. However, it does work with a Sennheiser wired headset that I have, and the mic built into the BTR3K itself also works well, if I connect regular headphones/earbuds to it. Bottom line: this works very well as a receiver, but if you want to use it for phone calls on an iPhone you may have (solvable) problems.

The biggest issue with this device is that when the screen is off, you cannot control the volume. You also cannot control the volume from MacOS. So if you want to adjust the volume, you must unlock the screen, then change the volume. ???? Why would you do this? Changing the volume with the screen off is ESSENTIAL behavior, yet it's missing here

I also dropped a star from volume control because the fast forward and rewind (or skip back and forward) controls are not what I expect as standard (what I would expect is: is 1 click on the button for play/pause, 2 clicks for forward and 3 clicks for back, but the BTR3 asks you to hold the up or down volume button for 2 seconds to skip in either direction). The volume control is also a little hard to learn because the headphone out is on the bottom which for some reason I can't get my head around on a device this size. The volume control itself is less of an issue than the skip controls, because I find myself using skip a LOT when listening to podcasts, which I will do with the BTR3K, and holding a button for 2 seconds to skip back 15 seconds back, and again, is pretty laborious. Overall, I like the BTR3K a lot because it lets me more easily use my wired headphones that I like, with great sound quality

I turned around and ordered the EarStudio ES-100 MK2 to replace it so look forward to trying that one.

Fiio BTR3K and Shanling UP2 ive tried, and both have decent microphones, with Fiio being the louder/more sensitive one. Qudelix 5k also should have a good mic by samples i heard online and has a gain setting for the mic, though this one doesn support aptx LL, just adaptive which has a bit more delay, still better than the rest of the codecs in that regard.

I suspect this is an issue with the battery as only solution is to have it continuously plugged into a power source while in use in conjunction with the stereo amplifier. This will only degrade the battery more rapidly which most assuredly will lessen its ability to perform for the use of a wireless receiver for driving headphones. If it is being used at lower output voltage for headphone use, I'm sure the battery will offer substantially better long term performance, just don't expect to use it as a dual purpose device.

Now I can upgrade to new technology without having to ditch a pair of $400 wireless headphones when they are obsolete. The only wish would be for a slightly bigger battery. Granted, this amp lasts all day for me but I would still make the trade off between a slightly bigger size for a few more hours of use. Also, the app works fine but it could use some refinement and maybe a parametric equalizer or less extreme presets for the equalizer
