To me you’re exactly describing that downcountry category, so I’d say  take a look at Specialized Epic Evo, Yeti SB115, Revel Ranger, Evil Following, Santa Cruz Tallboy, and definitely a good hard look at the Transition Spur.

TL:DR a trail bike is optimal for my area but i love xc and am scared to miss the momentum and speed of xc, what should i do!

ok so, i have been riding mountainbike for about 9 years and have only ridden cross country hardtails. i am now 16 and i have saved up to buy a carbon full suspension bike. my issue is that my local trails are a very mixed bag, there are crazy downhill sections that are quite sketchy on my current xc bike but there are also really steep and techy uphills that i like to do on my xc bike. my friend and basically 80% of the locals are riding all mountain/enduro bikes, but they are hiking up the climbs. i want to get a bike that i enjoy, i love riding fast uphill and sending it straight down again on my xc bike but i can never keep up with anyone going downhill and im terrified to do the crazy jumps that my friend does. i want to buy a trail/all mountain bike but i am scared to loose the speed and momentum the xc bike gives me.

please help!

I need advice!!

I recently sold both the HT and the Wreckoning and bought a 140mm Evil Offering in an attempt to find the sweet spot. So far, I'd say the Offering climbs better than the Wreckoning and I really don't notice much difference on the DH. I think it really depends on the kind of riding you do. Most of my riding is effectively enduro with long climbs and technical/chunky DH, so I want more than 120mm of travel and a more slack geo than I'd get on an XC bike

If you had to have two bikes to cover all your trail riding what would they be?

I currently have a 29inch 120mmF- 100mmRear travel salsa spear fish and a 27.5 150-140mm rocky mountain thunder bolt.

Thinking of selling one and getting a longer travel Enduro bike and can't decide which. I normally ride pretty hard and push the 120mm salsa to the max
