 They both are windproof to an extent with the shell and also can repel water due to the Dwr finish. Now let's look a little bit more in depth at the differences between the two jackets. Starting with the shell fabric, the torad apex here has an ultra light nylon fabric that features a Dwr finish so it can repel water to an extent. Now, the tord apex is actually pretty unique in this regard in that you can customize the denier of the jacket so you can go 7 to near, 10 to near or 20 denier on the outside

 The one here that I have is the non-hooded version, but this jacket is popular amongst avid backpackers as well because it is synthetic so it does well in wet conditions. but it also provides one of the best warmth to weight ratios that Patagonia makes out of all their jackets. Looking at these two jackets, we do find a lot of similarities between them. They both are lightweight and compressible

 Today we are looking at two very popular ultra lightweight puffy jacket options for hiking and backpacking. The first one being the Enlightened Equipment Toured Apex jacket, the second being the Patagonia Micro Puff. Both these jackets are super popular for hikers. They're also ultra lightweight

 It does a better job at actually reflecting out that wind so it doesn't penetrate through, and so if you have sheets of insulation throughout and so it keeps you nice and warm and toasty even when you're sitting still at the campsite. Now, let's consider the cons. The first con for me is that this is a little bit bulky of a jacket. It's not the slim fit or the trim fit like the micro puff can be

2021 PCT Shakedown Request

I've been looking at the new EE Torrid Pullover (inside 7d, outside 10d). Seems to make sense in the weight department and also for layering with the visp.

Switchback Travel

It’s not always this easy to narrow down competing models and make a top pick, but among windbreaker jackets, the Patagonia Houdini Air is head and shoulders above the rest. Building off the beloved Houdini below, the new Air takes the old formula but adds a ton of breathability and comfort to the mix. The jacket pairs a double-weave liner with a standard nylon shell, offering great wind protection and a softer feel than any other design in its weight class. In many ways, the Houdini Air is the Swiss Army Knife of windbreaker jackets and makes a great option for hiking, running, mountain biking, and a wide variety of other outdoor uses.

Keep in mind that with such a thin shell and air-permeable weave, you do give up some of the bombproof protection of a 100% nylon jacket like the original Houdini. That said, we took the Air out in 60mph, knock-you-over gusts near Patagonia’s Cerro Castillo and felt sufficiently sheltered from the storm. And although the jacket’s DWR coating is impressive, a thicker shell fabric (like that of the Black Diamond Alpine Start below) will offer better wet-weather protection.  I always throw it in my vest, just as a fail-safe when I ran Zion and I got extra cold at night. I threw this on under my heavier jackets, and it was just one more layer of insulation between my skin and so there you have it. The Patagonia Houdini, I love this shell. I would highly recommend it because it's so light and versatile, I always pack it in my vest for my hundred-mile runs if there's any chance of rain, or certainly at night as just an extra layer

 We might as well make it six minutes. It'S just very lightly sprinkling right now. We'Re gon na see how this holds up if I'm fairly dry.  Considering its weight, Patagonia nailed all the right features. You can cinch the hem to block out wind at the waist, the half-elastic cuffs seal nicely around the wrists, and a single adjustment at the hood allows you to tighten it down effectively. Finally, the slight drop hem at the back is a nice touch for a little extra coverage. All in all, the amount of versatility you get for the weight is truly remarkable

 And on our trip to Patagonia, I found myself keeping the Houdini close and wearing it daily. It cut the wind nicely when we stopped for lunch while backpacking, and I hiked in it if the weather was cool or the wind was particularly rough. Considering its weight, Patagonia nailed all the right features. It probably won't fit an iPhone, but, like smaller phone will fit in there, like I said, Samsung will fit no problem, but you can fit your keys and your money if you want, depending on what you want to use it for its try to get it like.
